I just saw this on eBay:

"Antique old mine cut round diamond weighing 2.80 carats set in an antique platinum setting with a old cut diamond on each shoulder. The mounting is very nice. The diamond is J color, I-3 clarity. There is carbon with very little inclusion. The clarity I-3 indicates there are 3 or more visible carbon spots in the ring. The ring has the look of a 3 carat old mine cut that would sell for $18,000.00 or more if it did not have the carbon spots. Ring size 7-1/2. Weight 3.5 grams. Diameter of diamond 9mm. (Item #4624)"

Ah, so if it only had 2 spots, it would be an I2? lol. U-G-L-Y

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! I didn't know that people in Beverly Hills had such poor taste ;) Seriously though, I am just kidding, that that is a ring I'd easily pass on.

It''s...lovely

Thank goodness it''s been removed from E-bay.

To be fair, unless you see this stone in person I don''t think you can really know how the diamond truly appears visually. This photo is magnified at least 30 times in size. With the brilliance and scintillation of a diamond you just may be very surprised how it performs in person.

I have a lot more respect for sellers who show you clearly the flaws in the diamond they sell than those sellers who make GREAT looking pictures hiding all imperfections.

zhu, but do you also respect sellers who use made-up clarity grades to make the item sound better...??

It certainly is not the worst on ebay, but I do like the "if it didn''t have the carbon" comment..silly. Kinda like saying, "this diamond would sell for twice as much - it it were bigger, cleaner and higher colour!"

If only, right?

btw, I can''t view the link - looks like its been removed?

This is about what I was thinking. I have an I-2 that looks a little like this when magnified, but to the naked eye it''s eye-clean and beautiful. The cut does help, though.

Why don''t we have the "stupid" police? That way they could round up these people and we woujldn''t have to listen to (or read) such ridiculousness anymore!!!

I agree with zhuzhuI recently bought
and returned a diamond ring from ebay. The picture was great. I could see a small inclusion, but otherwise clean from the picture. I emailed the seller and asked why the diamond was graded SI1. They said there was a very small feather barely visible with a loupe. I thought to myself --"if there is just a very small feather barely visible --wouldn''t it be graded higher?". So I bought the ring. When I received it you could clearly see inclusions throughout 1/3 of the diamond. The seller was just able to get some great pictures of it. I was going to have it appraised but then decided to just return it. I would have been much happier seeing the inclusions outright than finding out after the fact. (That diamond above does look rather yucky though!)

regarless of what the ring actually looks like IRL - it''s just a terrible picture anyway!

you guys are laughing at my ring.
