Hello all,

Is it me or is everyone getting engaged with 3+ carat diamonds lately? Don''t get me wrong, I love to drool over the large carat rocks and hope to continue to see them, but is this size range becoming more typical?

Honestly, I've seen/run across very few newly engaged ladies wearing three carats on their finger aside from the lucky few here on PS and the other jewelry forums. In real life, I've rarely come across a larger stone in the three carat range and usually it's on a more mature lady who's probably wearing an upgrade rather than her original eng. ring.

If it is, then I need to catch up!! I'm only at a 1ct!

Honestly, I think that we're more likely to see big rocks on this site than in our day to day lives. If other members are anything like me, then they have an obsession with jewelry, or anything that sparkles, and diamonds are the biggest sparklies I know of. The bigger the diamond, the bigger the sparkles, and if one can afford it, more power to them! I'd have a 3ct diamond on every finger if it were up to me

Keep in mind - many of the larger rocks are upgrades/anniversay presents. Mine was 20 years a comin.

My SO and I went ring-shopping again yesterday to try on some settings (we found one we like! yay! tacori doesn't have it on their website! argh!), and while we were there I tried on some 2+ and 3+ carat stones. This just reaffirmed for me that I, at least, do NOT have the hands to wear them -- they're bigger than my finger -- and that the ~.75-.85 size really is the most reasonable for me. With a nice shiny cut, it's still quite a lot of shiny

I don't see that range very often in engagement jewelery, simply becasue it's not particularly practical for everyday wear for most people. When you're planning on wearing something every day, all the time, it seems to me that you have to plan on every kind of activity (except martial arts of rock climbing, where the ring is downright dangerous). I'd hate to have my ring be in the way when changing a baby's diaper or building bookshelves.

Of course, this may simply mean that other people are much better at wearing jewelry than I am.

Every day? No... but for evening events (for this is is usually some concert) yeah, there would be a few large stones appearing. Only one wanders wether thise were e-rings or not. I would not think that the average goes up.
