Hello All!

Is there anyone out there that prefers a BIC to FIC? It seems that everyone suggesting stones here goes for the FIC ... and I see that FIC is harder to find, at least to me.

Does an increase in one necessarily mean a decrease in the other? Can there be a balance of both or would that just mean the diamond has less of both?

In respect to the HCA, I notice that it still predicts excellent fire even when the table size is larger (example 60) and/or the crown angle is lower (example 32) - the conditions under which PSers say there will be more white light return.

I suppose it boils down to personal preference, but again, it seems that the experts here are all about fire. I have seen the odd layperson pop up and say that they prefer more white light return, but they were in that position of defending a decision to go with a 60/60 stone.

If it’s all about fire, why isn’t everyone buying moissanite? But now I’m getting carried away, lol.

Thoughts?

I think the entire theory about BIC, FIC as it is incorporated into HCA should be removed. I would suggest disregarding it completely.

Hello! It could be because this is a diamond and gemstone lover's site and moissanite is an artificial, created diamond simulant stone. There are plenty of posts about it in the Fashion jewelry forum if you're interested.

I'm sorry but I can't figure out what the abbreviations BIC and FIC mean. Would anyone care to explain please?

thank you! are either (or even both) connected to "hearts and arrows" ?

Hi Paul :)

IIRC I read a post that said CBI cutting techniques are able to produce high amounts of fire without the high crown / small table combinations that are usually mentioned on this forum as being good for creating the opportunity for fire, so if that is correct, I can appreciate where you're coming from.

However, is it not true to say that generally speaking the high crown / small table combination would tend to be more 'FIC' than 'BIC', with 'BIC' being lower crown / larger table / possibly a 60/60 style?

(I ask not to be contrary, but to try to increase my understanding :) )

thank you @Karl_K ! I also found a few other old threads which helped understand a bit

My Wifey4vr's first diamond I bought her would most likely qualify as a fic.
I picked it out by eye pre-pricescope at a pawn shop.
Many years later the ASET image looked good.
I still love it :}

I would not be against hunting down more like it and the hca helps doing that.

I was asking a question about diamonds on the diamond forum and was joking about the moissanite. Thank you for your contribution, though.
