BGD Signature vs Premium Lab - difference in cut?

I’ve done quite a bit of searching but haven’t been able to find an answer to the following question - are BGD Premium Lab stones cut to the same standards as their Signature line?

I currently have a 0.63ct J BGD Signature flanked with two smaller Signature side stones in their crossed trellis three stone setting. I absolutely LOVE my ring and the cut is just phenomenal. Our ten (!) year anniversary is coming up and I figured this would be a good time to upgrade to a roughly 1.25ct center stone. Going the Lab route would allow us to keep the original center stone and turn it into a pendant while also going up in color for the ring which is very tempting! However if the cut is not the same I’d rather bite the bullet and pay more for a larger J since I don’t mind the warmth.

Here’s a photo from nine years ago, back in the pre-baby days when my finger was a size smaller. :)

Your ring is very pretty! I would contact BGD to ask about the cut quality of their labs. They would be your best source of info and could help you compare the cut of yours to their labs.

@MissGotRocks thank you! Yes I’m working with someone from BGD, but since the lab idea popped into my head on a Sunday I figured I’d ask here first. :)

Good luck to you and sorry I don’t have the answer. Thank goodness tomorrow is Monday so you will be able to contact them then. I hate to have a burning question on the weekend when I can’t get answers! Happens to me a lot!

I purchased a pair of their premium labs and they are phenomenal!!

That’s wonderful to hear! I’ve been pretty much out of the loop the past few years and didn’t realize lab diamonds were so common and so much less expensive these days. I’d also love to keep the current center stone for sentimental reasons.

If BGD doesn't cut their labs to their Signature lines other places do. Whiteflash and Distinctive Gems come to mind.

Beautiful ring BTW...

In my experience BGD premium labs cover a wider range of cuts than BGD signature naturals, but they can be just as well cut. We actually owned and compared a BGD blue and a BGD premium lab in similar size and color for almost a year. We ultimately decided that we liked the BGD premium lab more and traded in the BGD blue.

@tyty333 thank you, I didn’t realize this!

@0-0-0 that’s great to hear, thank you.

I thought I’d update with the response I got from Katie at BGD:

“Our premium cut lab diamonds are the most ideal cut in the lab collection. They are perfect in all ways and comparable to the black line in the natural collection.”

They should hopefully have images of the diamonds to show you as well. Good luck with your purchase!

Came here to say this...BGD signature/premium LGDs are custom cut to the same criteria as their BGB earth grown counterparts.

If I understand correctly, WF premium in-house LGDs are sourced, assessed to similar criteria as their in-house earth grown lineup (PS, ES, and ACA), then listed for sale.

Victor Canera usually gravitates towards sourcing GCAL 8X LGDs, from the folks on Reddit that I've conversed with that have commissioned his work.
