Hi all,

I''m looking to get my enagement ring made by either Brian Gavin Diamonds or Leon Mege from Art of Platinum. The design I want have a fair amount of tiny tiny tiny micropave work. I have looked at many of the BGD threads and their work is amazing, however I have not seen many photos of their micropave work. For this reason I am thinking perhaps I am better off goin with Leon Mege (as he has had more experience with such intricate micropave designs), however the response I have had (very early stages) from Leon Mege has been very disapponting, while Lesley from BGD has been very helpful.

I think I would feel much more comfortable going with BGD if I see a few photos of the micropave work. Does anyone have any BGD micropave rings they can show me? Or indeed any advice!?

Thanks,
Mandie :)

Why don't you post a photo of the style you are looking for. There are other vendors that do beautiful micropave.

I have a micropave 3-sided ring from Leon Mege and it is perfection but some people find him abrasive to work with. Lesley is a dream to work with.

for detailed micropave, i''d probably opt for Leon Mege.

May I ask why or how your experience thus far with Leon has been disappointing?

I have been communicating with him via email in re: to a custom setting and he has been nothing but prompt, forthcoming and gracious with his responses. I know he prefers to discuss details via phone but IMO he is very helpful with general questions and quotes via email.

Here is a link to my original post re this setting. Its a thin knife edge with tiny tiny micro paving on both sides of the band.

The initial reply email I received was a bog standard reply which didn''t answer any of the questions I had. And when I replied telling Leon that I was not impressed with this and I had no idea whether he even read my initial email he replied that he did and gave me his number to call him. I live in the Middle East and not only is the time difference an issue, but I would like to go with someone who is willing to work mainly via email as calling the USA so often will cost me a fortune.

Ugh, this is so frustrating!

I''d suggest Ocean Pearlman, very delicate pave work, she communicates well by e-mail, and she wants to make the customer happy at all times. She doesn''t market as well as Leon Mege but has excellent highend handmade work.

I would then suggest BGD for your project. Leon is not known for his communication and since you are overseas, I think your project has the potential of being disappointing for you, just from the customer service prospective. Lesley is very responsive and easy to reach. I think it would be a much better match for you and they do wonderful work.

BGD does great work and Lesley is fantastic at communicating via email.

Sorry all, here is the link! https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/bespoke-jeweller-in-london.133577/

Does anyone have pictures of BGD micro pave work?
There is a big difference between the delicate hand carved prongs from a high end designer like Leon Mege or Ocean Pearman, and BGD who uses CAD/CAM and wax. You will pay 1 -2 k more for the handmade pave but its well worth it if you want the most delicate with the least metal showing, with minimal space between the diamonds. There are a number of threads with photos of BGD pieces and while well above average for a CAD/CAM and wax jeweler they are not close to Ocean''s or Leon''s work. The biggest differences are the size of the prongs and the placement which leaves a very small space between diamonds absent in more delicate work.

Thanks for your advice ChunkyCusionLover. I was not aware that Leon was handmade while BGD was not. I guess it makes a bit more sense now. Who is Ocean Pearman? I did a search but couldn''t find any useful information.

What about Maytal Hannah?

Gypsy has worked with Ocean and she was *very* specific about the quality she wanted. If you find her older threads you can hear about her reviews, or perhaps she will see this. She got in touch with Ocean through Wink Jones at www.highperformancediamonds.com I believe.

The knifeedge aspects of the design you want reminds me of Ladyloveluxury's ring made by whiteflash, made when Brian Gavin used to work there. I don't know if he made this ring, but he recommended the fabulous center diamond! I think either WF or BGD could do the design you want, if this level of pave work is good for you. Its a lovely ring and they do some kinds of custom work very well.

If you are thinking more intricate pave work (the picture quality on the other thread wasn't good enough for me to see exactly what you wanted) then a pave specialist is probably in order, such as the other posters have suggested. Obviously Leon has a huge following on ps for a reason, there is a smaller collection of Maytal Hannah work here as well for you to look at with a simple search, and less by Ocean but Gypsy's ring is an excellent example of gorgeous pave (and dealing with and satisfying a customer that knows her mind!)

I was also very specific about what I wanted for my Fiance''s earrings, they had to be sent back once(at her expense) but were returned on time and we are completely satisfied. I can confidently say my experience with Ocean was great. Here is my thread on the earrings she designed for me Aquamarine Earrings. Ocean is a very detailed person and tries very hard to understand and execute your intended design, but with any custom project you must be clear and put every detail in writing and this goes for any designer you work with.

I now have quite a clar sketch of what I want. I have also confirmed that the diamond micropave size that was in the original design was a total of 0.18ct with 76 diamonds. That is 0.0025ct each diamond. I am worried that BGD wont be able to do that.

Apologies for the threadjack in advance.

CCL, I''m sure congratulations must be in order by now for you and your lady. Did you ever persuade her to let us have ear shots of those wonderful earrings?
