I saw some HOF diamonds today and don''t know if I can go back to non H&A stones. The arrows pattern was so pretty. Of course the HOF stone was completely out of my price range but I''ve heard wonderful things about BGD H&A stones. How many of you think that a BGD stone will equal or beat a HOF stone? Who do you think has the best H&A stones, BGD, WF, GOG?

In case someone was interested, the HOF stone is 70% more than a comparable BGD H&A stone.

Ironically enough, the HOF is a nice average H&A cut diamond. They just were the first branded diamond on the scene and still demand a lot of market share because of that. They charge their dealers more for their stones than many of the vendors here sell to the public for.

You will find some incredible stones here that meet and exceed the cutting quality of the stones you saw today.

I feel very confident that a branded H&A from BGD, WF, GOG, or HPD (Wink''s company) would all equal or better HOF diamonds.

I have had both a HOF and an ACA. The ACA does not outperform the HOF. They are both beautiful diamonds and their performance is outstanding. That being said, the price for a HOF is extremely costly and you will be able to get a fabulous stone online.

Risingsun, does that mean that the HOF outperformed the ACA and by how much or were they equal?

The HOF jeweler told me that they cut and polish their stones at 100X magnification. Does that make a difference?

I wouldn't say that one outperformed the other. I can't tell you if the 100x magnification makes a difference. That is part of the HOF marketing approach. I checked out the diamond the way I would check out an online stone. I got the crown angle, pavillion angle, table%, depth% and ran it through the HCA. I used my own Idealscope to check for light leakage. I drove my jeweler nutty. I didn't want to "romance the stone." I wanted to have the facts. There was no question that the diamond was beautiful and performed well in all lighting conditions. You need to remember that this is a board which supports online purchases. HOF doesn't get much love here. You will be advised to choose an online alternative. I'm suggesting the same thing. I love my HOF, but I know that you can get a great performing stone online for much less money.

ETA: There were some personal reasons I decided to go with HOF. Do what makes sense to you. I recommend BGD, he developed the ACA for WF and is now on his own.

I''m definitely going to choose a H&A stone online over a HOF. I mean for the price difference, I can get much bigger stone :) I was just curious if the HOF stones would be a good respresentation of what a H&A stone would look like. I don''t have any of the pricescope H&A vendors close by though I am tempted to fly to Texas :)

Yes, they are a good representation. When people ask what an ideal cut/performing diamond looks like, we often refer them to HOF to take a look. Good luck with finding your new stone

Don''t know where you are located, but you could fly to Houston and make appts with WF and BGD, but you don''t have to, both staff will walk you through the diamond, and you have good return policies from both stores. Best of luck.
