I am so excited to be receiving these beautiful diamond studs in platinum setting!

however I am worried ... seems like 2 out of the 4 prongs of each earring are forced outward, they look like they are bent... because the setting is perhaps too small for the diamond? in the following pics you can see them on one side of the stud... kind of bent and uneven... what do you all think ?

p.s. guess the size of the diamonds! they are both F color VS1, BGD hearts & arrows !!

They look good to me. I'm going to say 1/3 to 1/2 carat each.

Ditto on size. As for looking bent, I think it's just the angle the picture was taken. I don't think BGD crams diamonds into mountings ;))

thritto on size! are you getting a smaller pair of studs for everyday? (I seem to remember you have a larger pair?)

also, I think the settings are custom made for the diamonds, not stock, so they should fit the size diamonds (I may be wrong about this...maybe not all of the settings are?) anyway, I think whatever it is may just be a result of the angle in the photography, but you could always call BGD to double-check.

Unless you requested and are paying for hand made settings, then they are stock, unless something has changed at BGD in the last year and a half. (I walked downstairs to Stuller(I think) with Brian to view the settings and backs in person to decide which one I wanted for my studs.) I agree that it is probably the angle of the photo that is causing your concern, call BGD and Lesley will ease your mind or make it right. Congrats on your new beauties!

I think it's the camera angle. They do great work and I don't think they would cram a stone too big into a setting and then ship it out to a customer.

As for size... .5-.6 each?

It's just the photos. There's no way BGDs would send you earrings with funky shapped prongs.

Stone size... .30ct each?

thanks so much everyone for making me feel better!

can't wait to receive them on Monday ... i will post pics and verify if there really is a problem on the setting.

so here are the 2 diamonds i bought from BGD for these earrings ... most of you are pretty much right on!

they are both 0.34ct = 0.68 ctw!

this is the setting i picked (in platinum) :

with that said, both stones are right at 4.5mm and to my knowledge stuller's settings (if mine are indeed by this company) are sized in 0.5mm increments, so my diamonds should really fit in the baskets perfectly. crossing fingers that they will look perfect!

these will definitely be my everyday studs, since now my e-ring is halo'ed i just don't think i feel too comfortable looking so blingy in the office. i work in fashion and the lighting in our conference rooms are spotlighted (to showcase our products), i just don't want to look like a disco ball in my meetings !

Hopefully the general public doesn't get close enough to see the lack of perfection ;))

Kidding :cheeky:

Yes, I am sure they are perfect. These magnified pictures can sometimes be detrimental!

I am interested in stones that size as well, so please post some ear shots when they come!
