Hello Everyone! Longtime lurker, first post. I've educated myself the best I've could so I can be coherent to anyone who may help me :)

I've been searching for months for the correct center diamond for the ER I'm crafting for my soon to be fiancee. She wants a 1 carat cushion, no changing that. So I researched and educated myself about trying to find the best diamond within my budget of $6500 (total budget is $9000 but $2500 has already gone to a custom setting). As many of you know, finding a good looking cushion is trying to find a needle in a haystack. I've seen many in person and I can honestly say I do like the square 8 main ones that have a more splintery appearance like Tiffany's Novo, but they are very rare. I was getting extremely frustrated because so many have that slushy crushed ice look that makes it look so dull because of light leakage. So I figured to use the best cut cushions out there as a benchmark to what I should be looking for and found BG Signature cushion to be one of the best to use as a standard (GOG Brellia is excluded because H&A in cushion just looks too weird even though it has optimum light performance. It just looks too much like a round brilliant)

Currently BG has one Signature cushion left in their inventory but the rep told me they're getting more. Anyways, I figure since this is a BG signature diamond it must be an excellent looking diamond. However, I know there is a premium you pay for buying one of his Signature diamonds so I tried to find a diamond pretty close to his on JA to save money. And I think I found one, but there is a small difference in their ASET images I need help with. Firstly the specs for BG's are 1.073 carat, J color, VVS2. It's marketed as a branded cushion since AGS has assigned an Ideal cut to it. The one on JA I found is also a J color, VS1, 1.01 carat and with almost the same exact LxW dimensions and plot facet. (8 thin mains with an additional star pattern right in the center, see below). Given all details are almost identical to each of these diamonds, the only thing I find different is BG ASET image looks just slightly better. But VERY slightly. As you can see BG diamond ASET image has more red in its corners. And that's pretty much the only difference. Question: Does this warrant a $2000 price difference or do you think the brilliance between the two will be pretty much the same (also considering the prongs may hide some brilliance in such said corners anyway)? If so, I figure the JA one is a good deal. Opinions please!

Thanks for the other links 04diamond, but those are too rectangular. She wants a ratio of 1.04 or less.

get the cheaper one.

the 8 thin mains w/ the extra star pattern in the middle are usually overpriced (a lot of them come from Canada)

if you had to pick between those 2, go with the cheaper one

but here are some other choices from Leon Mege that you might like:

1) 1.09 H VS1 for $5,806: http://leonmege.com/diamonds/cert_viewer.php?lot_number=38836217

2) 1.05 F VS1 for $5,765 http://leonmege.com/diamonds/cert_viewer.php?lot_number=33169716

3) 1.04 I VS1 for $4,988 http://leonmege.com/diamonds/cert_viewer.php?lot_number=38449020

4) 1.01 G VS1 for $6,959 http://leonmege.com/diamonds/cert_viewer.php?lot_number=34264287

5) 1.01 D VVS1 for $9,957 http://leonmege.com/diamonds/cert_viewer.php?lot_number=32247684

6) 1.01 H IF for $4,256 http://leonmege.com/diamonds/cert_viewer.php?lot_number=29652148

Some of them are 4 main cushions and some of them are 8 thin main cushions (all cushion brilliants)...but when mounted, they will look similar to the Novo

Your best bet will probably be #3 in the list above

go with the JA stone if you are in a rush. The additional $2000 for the BGD stone isn't worth it.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I guessed the extra $2k wasn't worth it as well.

OMG, thanks for the links. #3 does have the best specs so I just spoke to Perry about it. Tried to get the ASET image but they don't believe in that he says. Weird? He said the best he can do is shoot HD video so I'll see.

I'm not too familiar with Leon Mege so I'm not sure if they provide ASET images or not...but it does strike me as strange that a PS vendor would say that they don't believe in ASET images.

Maybe others that are more familiar with LM will chime in

Good luck!

Yeah he said ASET can be altered so they don't trust them. So I guess they don't have the equipment to do it themselves. It's hard to buy a diamond unseen however without the ASET image. HD video is nice but specific lighting can make it look better than what it is just like in all B&M places. I can't see how a reputable online vendor doesn't offer the ASET. Perry said if it doesn't look good to them they won't sell it. That's all fine and good but I'd rather take scientific evidence over a seller's (salesman) word any day.

Leon and Perry do not believe in or use ASET or other imaging systems. That said, they have a reputation for finding beautiful stones - I don't think anyone who has purchased from Leon and Perry has ever been disappointed.
