So I impulse bought a 1 ct. blue/purple sapphire and I'm kind of in love with the color. I plan on setting it most likely as a three stone with some sentimental stud diamond earrings that are maybe 4mm each or a touch smaller. My go to these days for everything is a bezel. However I'd love for the "blurple" to really be seen. I'll attach a vendor pic.

Colored Stones Hive Minds, what say you? Bezel or no? My other idea is a trellis or something with compass prongs to give a little more width. These days I'm about a size 7.25 to 7.5.

Blurple, you say? My favorite! This is a really beautiful stone with rich, velvety color. I love bezels too, but I tend to steer clear of them with darker-toned gems. Now the better the cut, the less you have to worry about this, because light should enter and exit through the crown. It won't be lost in the pavilion. Still, though others may say it makes no difference, I do find it can indeed darken the apparent color. Even if it's slight, with an already dark tone, you risk losing "something." Why not brighten it as much as possible. So if you're asking ME, I would say go for a nice, airy prong setting. Can't wait to see this mounted!!

P.S. I was just considering compass prongs for my next project... LOVE!

I think you will appreciate the color more in a very open setting that allows light to get to the pavilion.

Dreamer and @Autumn in New England , You both seem very detail oriented. How would you set it? The only thing that I'd like to have is compass prongs because I'd like a tiny bit of protection from the front and back. That seems to be where stones can get bumped.

The options are endless lol I’d choose a vendor and then look at their past work and select a style I like. You may prefer to keep costs down and in that case I would look through the Stuller online catalogue and find a local person to set the stones as they hav eBay styles that can accommodate the size stones you are talking about.

A Rose Gold bezel springs to mind when I saw the pics.

DK :))

I love your idea of a 3-stone trellis, but that wouldn't work with compass prongs. I'd say Dreamer gave you some good suggestions!
