Bezel with open or closed gallary?

I am seriously considering resetting my e-ring into a bezel. It's a 0.87 radiant cut that is currently in a double claw x prong solitaire with a knife-edge band. I love the setting but the prongs, while beautiful, almost seem to dwarf the stone. My channel set eternity band has milgraining around it so I'd also like to add milgraining around the bezel. My question is whether or not to do an open or closed gallery. I prefer the open gallary because the entire setting seems less bulky to me and a wedding band can sit more flush with it, but I also love the way a closed gallary looks in profile. Any suggestions or opinions?

I much prefer an open gallery. I think the closed ones look too chunky.

I agree....I would do open.

I would also do an open gallery. Diamonds sparkle at their best when they have light hitting them from as many sources as possible. Closing it up, may decrease that. I don't know for SURE about your particular closed bezel setting, but I'd keep it as open as possible - and you can admire the profile of your gorgeous stone!!

Another vote for open.

If by open you mean 'properly supported by gallery wires' but mostly open, then that gets my vote.

If you are talking no gallery wires versus closed. Then the closed gets my vote.

Open gallery:
1. Extra light source from the side for extra sparkle (which helps for less than perfectly cut stones)
2. Pretty to look at
3. I like to be able to reach in there and clean every bit of the diamond.

Very modern and contemporary! It does appear as a thick bezel - did you see the completed photo of that ring?

I do like how the diamond is exposed (But protected) and the light will be amazing reflected in that setting!

This setting is an example of what I ment by open gallary or something like the Vatche X prong Princess bezel. This will secure the stone properly, no?

Nope that JA setting is not well supported. It's too high up to have no wires under there, IMO.

Here's mine. Open but supported by wires.

Thank you, Gypsy. I really love the intricacy of your setting and it looks less modern, to me. I am slowly collecting pictures of what I like and I will take it to my jeweler to see what they come up with. Thank you for all your imput!
