This is a 1.3ct silvery blue sapphire, from my local gem and mineral shop.
I decided to bezel set it in sterling.
I'm pleased with the result.
Yay, a new sapphire ring!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
I've got some time off for the holiday, and so it's jewelry making time.
I'll probably do a few more pieces in the coming week.
And yes, the instant gratification happens with the final polish.....it's always thrilling to see your project shine!
I haven't seen you use faceted gems before! This is a revelation!! Impeccable craftsmanship, as always. But, I mean, that thing literally looks like an icicle manifested into a ring.

Haha, thanks @Autumn in New England!
Over the years, I think I've done every gem setting method! I just mess around till something good happens!
I have done lots and lots of prong setting, too.

Gorgeous sapphire and a perfect wintery ring! Your talents abound. Curious if you work with tarnish resistant sterling or know if it is more difficult to work with?

@stracci2000 You're the person to ask..My DIL and son gave me a sterling silver bracelet from my grandchildren with their initials. The chain is too big. Can a silver chain be shortened? It’s a fine chain.
@mayday
I believe a well known tarnish resistant silver is called Argentium. I have never used it, so I don't know if it's easy to work with or not. I use sterling silver from my local jeweler's supply shop, and my pieces are unplated. Rhodium plating on sterling will stop tarnish, but I personally don't like the look.
@MamaBee
your chain could easily be shortened by any jeweler
