Hello all,
I'm designing my engagement ring with Amy from David Klass Jewelry and need help describing the features I like on this inspiration ring. I've been going back and forth between bezel and prongs for the center stone and this setting seems to have aspects of both? What is this called?

I'm going for a streamline yet delicate look and I think the one above accomplishes that better than my original inspiration ring. Here for reference...

I asked Amy for a setting like this but with a thinner bezel and graduated stones on the lower half of the halo. (Waiting to hear back if shank stones are in the budget.)

Here's my dilemma, I like the clean lines of bezel and how it accentuates the pear shape. And the extra security that I don't have to baby the ring out fear the stone will come loose. However, I worry that the bezel covers too much of the stone or will sit too low in the halo. With prong I worry that it will sit too high or come loose.

Would a setting like this provide the security of a bezel with just a little height from the prongs? How do I describe the height of the stone in comparison to the halo? I like how its flush with no gap but just slightly elevated. Also do those claws look big enough to securely hold the stone? My stone is much smaller anyway so maybe that won't be a problem.

Are the stones in the halo and shank bead and bright? I like how you don't see the metal cut away on the sides around each stone but I don't know that proper terms for the setting.

I believe this setting is prong set with a very tight faux bezel. If you look close it looks like the girdle is setting above the "bezel".
The best way to tell Amy what you want is to send the picture and discuss it with her. If it is a faux bezel then it will not be any
safer than a prong set but it should let a little more light in, which can be an issue with a pear. I would
keep the gallery fairly open if I were you.

The halo does look bead set with shared beads. The shank melee have 4 "prongs" each.

Post your cads when you get them so we can check to see if anything is off. I'm not one of them but we have some folks that can really pick
up on cad issues.

Are you planning on wearing a wedding band with? There will be a gap with the design above. Might want to take that into consideration.

Fellow pear wearer :wavey:

Ok thanks for the reply.
My gallery was designed to have a little flower done in a contrasting metal thats symbolic for me and my boyfriend. The petals would be thin and open.
I plan to have a curved/nesting wedding band that sits flush to the bottom half of the pear, possibly similar to this one.

Another thought was a curved band with leaf-like stones. Either way, the center stone would be a white Australian opal, also symbolic for us.

Very pretty design. And yes, as @tyty333 said, that would be described as a "Faux bezel." :)

Thanks, good to know. What do you think about the height of the stone/size of the claws? Is this set up secure enough?

Opals are my favorite gemstone (and my birthstone). I think this will become a stunning ring!

That said, opals are pretty soft on the Mohs scale (5.5 out of 10). If you don't want to baby the ring, and you plan to wear it every day, I'd say that might be a bigger concern than the setting?

Just my two cents, feel free to ignore in case this is something you've already discussed and are cool with :)

Is the opal for your engagement ring or for the middle stone in your wedding band? I'm thinking wedding band but its not clear.

Yes the opal would just be the middle stone of the wedding band so hopefully softness wont be too much of an issue for a small stone. The center stone of the ering will be a peachy pink sapphire, my birthstone. I know its not as hard as diamond, but its hard enough that Im comfortable with it. I may not even wear it to work anyway because I work in a hospital.

This looks great, Ellebelle. Would love to see the finished set - Dont forget to come back with photos.

Thank you, I should get the CAD images soon and I'll definitely post them for everyone's advice. I can't wait to see it!
