Hello,

I am in the process of looking for a diamond to be set in a bezel pendant. I was wondering what setting flips less? I really like the barbara pendant from BGD. I also dont mind the fixed bezel they have. Do you happen to know which one flips less? Is there a style that is better for not flipping?

Thank you!

Stationary/fixed pendants tend to flip. There are a couple people who had/have the Barbara and said it doesn't flip, but I think it depends upon the shape of your neck and the length of the chain as to whether it remains in place or not. There really isn't any guarantee, either way, which I know is frustrating. (Of my three stationary pendants, only one doesn't flip. It is on an 18" chain...not sure if that helps or not.)

For me sliding is better. Stationary migrates to the side on me.

Chain thickness makes a difference as well. The Barbara has half hoops in the back, and where the half hoops attach to the bezel, a curved "V" shape area is where the chain sits. If the chain is thicker, it wont wedge in as far, which shifts more weight to the top and will cause the pendant to flip.

I had a Barbara and it flipped pretty often, but my chain was thicker. I know someone who has the same sized pendant but a thinner chain and she has no issues. Same chain length. I also have a stationary pendants and had no issue with flipping. I specifically requested to have the chain attached at above 10 and 2 o'clock, so it's heavier on the bottom.

I have a Barbara on a fairly thin chain and it slides beautifully. There is the occasional flip, but it rights itself and also stays at the centre of my neck. I do have some fixed necklaces that end up w the centre stones pointing off to my shoulder!! That's the reason why I wanted the slider - I want it to remain in the middle of my neck.

chain length on mine is just under 18" and it hangs perfectly.

Good luck!

I had a fixed bezel pendant on a very thin chain and it either flipped or liked to move to one side of my neck, even when the attachments were at 10 and 2. I am much happier with it once reset as a sliding pendant.

I had my first bezel pendant made with a heavy platinum wheat chain b/c I wanted to be sure it didn't break and the diamond constantly goes rogue...travels all over the place, flips, ends up in the hallow of my neck, upside down, or off to the side... The jeweler attached it at the 10 & 2 o'clock saying that would make sure it didn't flip. I think if I had it moved to a lighter chain, it may not travel as much...

I've got four bezel pendants and they're all fixed. To be honest, I feel the sliding bezels are a little old-fashioned. They remind me of how bezel pendants used to be in the Eighties. Mine range from 0.12 to 0.52 and although I've never seen them flip when I look in the mirror, they do go off-centre. No big deal; I simply tug them back.

Not "stylin" and rather ordinary, but most of my diamond pendants are on 4-prong setting with rabbit-ear bale. Some of those Stuller mountings have nice detail on the side. They don't flip, travel or misbehave on my box chains.

I have this theory that I found from myself but don't know if it holds true to everyone. I had a costume stationery pendant with a fixed emerald station on a wide chain. I wore it out to a function once and it kept going to the side, to the point I thought 'not wearing this again'. Then I lost weight and put it on one night and it stayed in place right at the centre of the front all night. So
I wonder if the chain is either the wrong length or if you need to have a thin neck to wear this style. :twirl:

I always thought the rabbit ear thing would just be one more (weak) point to break. I have a sliding bezel and love it, but I do have to adjust the catch every morning to return it to the back of my neck. Other than that, it's not a problem.

If the setting is sturdy, including thick enough rabbit ears, it should be secure. Probably the weakest point of a necklace is the catch or a link in the chain if it's delicate.
