Hello! I usually spend my time on PS over at the LIW board, but since I''m thisclose to a proposal (fingers crossed anyway!), I would appreciate an outside expert opinion on the ring I''m almost decided on.

Though I don''t have pictures of the ring, I''m attaching a similar style (excuse the yellow gold of the ring in the pic). The real ring is a hand-crafted white gold 3-stone bezel with a platform.

The stats are:
.52 tcw (center stone is .34 and sidestones are .16)
H-I color and S1 clarity

Until the end of February the ring is 30% plus an additional 10% which takes it from $1230 to under $800. Going on this information alone, is it a decent buy?

Does the ring have a certificate? Can you post the numbers off the certificate? I would want to know more on the stone 1st. Hope that helps. The diamond tutorials up top under knowledge are helpful too! It is hard just from seeing a picture to tell you what we think but it is exciting you are starting to shop

It is a good price. I say this knowing pretty much exactly what the ring and diamond sizes will be like. I have a bezel set 5 stone ring with a .40 centre, two .20, and two .15 stones. With the bezel, you can't see very much of the stone to judge cut. You can see colour pretty well though. My ring cost more than 3 times that amount 10 years ago. Good luck.

ETA: forgot to add, it's a good price if the stones are decent colour and appraise as such. Mine are F and G. Doh! That's kind of important. Obviously if it was much lower colours, it would only be a "fair" deal. Try to find out as much as you can about each of the stones.

Skippy123 - No, I don''t have the other information- I just had the jeweler write down some key stats to give to my BF. I don''t know if this helps, but the ring is GIA-certified and is an "ideal cut." I''m sure I''ll be in the store again before giving BF my final decision - which, I must admit it, is terrifying! So I''ll be sure to get more stats on the stone to run by the boards. : )

In person, it is very near colorless and has lots of fire. I''m thinking of having the center store upgraded to a .5 and the side stones to .2 if BF''s limited budget allows.

lyra - Thanks for your response - I''m so nervous about deciding on a ring, but it''s the second time I''ve seen it and I keep gravitating toward THAT particular one. Were you happy with your ring?

Mine was a 15th anniversary ring, and I wore it as my ER for the last 10 years. It was perfect for that time of my life because I could wear it 24/7 and not ever worry about knocking it on anything or damaging it really. I still wear it with a plain WB when I''m not wearing my new upgrade solitaire. Mine was all yellow gold, but recently I had just the parts surrounding the diamonds rhodium plated, and it totally brought it to a new life. Wish I''d done that sooner. So in white gold, it really does make the diamonds appear larger, and shows off more of the sparkle and fire. Bezels are great for anyone with an active lifestyle. They''re not blingy as such, but they''re super practical.

Although I don''t have active lifestyle, per se, I favor the bezels for two reason -- 1. My local goldcrafters/jewelers specialize in unique bezel designs and 2. Pronged diamonds make me nervous. When I first started my diamond shopping adventures, I thought I wanted a pronged round solitaire -- then I completely changed after going to my local jewlers.

I agree about white gold making the diamonds appearing larger. In the store you can really see the difference between to the two side by side.

Do you happen to have any hand shots of your ring?

Here''s a followup on the ring in question. I made a mistake in the orginal size: It''s a .34 center with .8s on the side for a total of .52 tcw. Here''s the ring on my finger trying it on in the store:

For some reason my macro setting was in black and white at the time, and I was too excited to fool around with the camera!

What do you think?

Ooh I think it''s very pretty on you! I love bezel settings and I often wear one on my right hand.

Thank you! I was a little nervous about the smaller size (ugh, especially after gazing at all the lovelies on this board!) and was feeling self-conscious about the smaller carats, but the bezel setting really makes it appear larger, plus the side stones give it an extra blingy factor.

Now the wait begins!

Looks lovely!

I really think it has great finger coverage and looks much larger than the stated weights. Love it.
