1)Is the Quad really better than a "regular" square Princess?
2)If a Princess is a rectangular brilliant modified, how many of you feel that it is less desirable than the square?

#1} The Quad is sold with Brilliance Scope pedigree and some princess cuts are too - so you can definitely compare at least againt the Bscope's benchmarks. I doubt the different faceting shows in smaller stones, but this would be for you to tell...

#2) How about you? They are sold at a discount now, but the preference for squares is rather new. Top brilliance should be acheivable with both shapes, so, it's really down to your choice (well, or a PS poll if you want

).

I happen to like a slightly rectangular princess...it helps it look bigger...Also, those GIA certs tend to exag the rectangular shape...and think that just b/c a stone is an ambar quad doesn't mean it's a well cut stone...you can get a stone just as amazing eventhough it's a regular ol' princess! :0

Hm... you mean the picture from the cert? Or the L, W numbers ?

Nope... those are not pictures of the diamond at all - just a "map" on which one could locate inclusions. GIA calls stones with over 1.05 L/W "rectangular" so they pop up an obviously rectangular representative picture, that's all. The proportions and facet pattern do not match the certified stone - this is very obvious for unorthodox "mixed cuts" which may get a picture way different from what the stone really looks like. The pics on the cert are just "symbols"

I still think it is better to just take that L/W ratio rather than eyeball the numbers. And figure out where "square" ends for you. I would consider GIA's 1.05 threshold a bit understated, maybe 1.1 works for me? This may not be a big deal, but it is a shame to pass a nice stone 'cause it got 1.07 L/W and GIA said "rectangular modified brilliant"...

that's what I'm talking about...the map of the stone is on the cert and looks more rectangular than it really looks in person.
