Between E and D round diamond, with the following specs, which one will you choose?

E, 1.62, vs2, heart and arrow.
Depth, table, crown angle, pavillion angle : 61.6, 54.9, 35, 40.7

D, 1.70, vs2, excellent
Depth, table, crown, pavillion: 61.6, 57, 35, 40.8

Price is similar.

Lets say aset is similar, which one will you choose?

If it had to be between a D and a E, it would be the E.

But why are you paying such a high premium? What about an F? I cannot discern a single difference between D to E to F if they were all true D-E-Fs graded by GIA. I'd need them BLOWN UP super sized and large, under specific lighting environments, RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, to see the slightest tint.

If you must go "colorless", I vote going with an F. If you must go D or E, I vote going with the E.

I like small tables on big stones, so the E.

The price between f and e are only slight different. But good advise. I'll try to look more. Why does small table is better btw?

it's a no brainer. if ASET is similar and prices are similar, take the D diamond for better color and size.

Personally neither. I would not much notice a difference between a d and an h on my hand, but I would certainly notice the size difference you could get if you went down to an h. But of the two I like the small table. More fire.

I would take the E of these two with limited info, although I will not buy a diamond without pictures at minimum. I would also agree that F color is super white, and I buy G-H color for myself.

I like the proportions of the E as well but I agree with many of the others that I wouldn't pay the premium. I personally would choose a G color closer to the 2ct mark. A G will still be very white and indistinguishible from an E or an F once set in my opinion. Its very very difficult to discern the minute color differences in diamonds that are not loose and being viewed side by side. On the other hand its much easier to discern the size difference of a 1.6 and a 2ct. ;))

Good points about color. That said, I have a D and several G's and I can absolutely tell the difference. The G's are plenty white on their own, but at an angle / in direct sun I can see the color of the G. It all depends on how color sensitive the OP is and whether or not D/E is a mind clean thing. FWIW, I like the proportions of the E with the smaller table.

I agree, no sense in paying the premium for those higher colors when G-I are still colorless (even a well cut J can face up icy white). Better to get at least a 2 carat true H & A stone....here are some on JA for comparison and all these stones have small tables which is really nice. Don't know your budget:

Go to Good Old Gold and watch their videos on cut, color,& clarity and you will see that high color and clarity do NOT necessarily make a beautiful diamond. Lots of ugly diamonds that are high colors. CUT is KING and will determine the beauty of the stone and will enable you to save big $$ for a high color and clarity stone. Lower colors that are eye clean are the best value and allow you to buy the largest stone for your budget.

I know how hard it is for newbies looking for diamonds to wrap their minds around those facts because I was once searching for stones based on color...although I just wanted reasonably eye clean. Hope this helps.

I would pick the E. Overall I don't think you'd notice much difference once the diamond is mounted of G and H diamonds as well.

I'm curious though....you have the benefit of being able to compare your D and your G's side by side. If you were only to view the G in sunlight at a specific angle, would you think of it as anything other than very white? I absolutely 100% agree that when the two colors are viewed side by side there will be a color difference, but is that color difference worth the sacrifice of additional size or cost? I think your absolutely right though that the OP needs to determine his color sensitivity and what is mind clean to him, but I think that it would be beneficial to view the different color grades independently instead of side by side where differences are much (or not so much) more obvious.

EDIT: sorry ecf, I just re-read that you aren't actually comparing your D to your G side by side, but I'm still interesting in hearing your thoughts as to whether or not you think the color differences would be as apparent if you didn't have the D to compare the G to.

I have an E, it also has a small (53.7) table and I love my diamond. However, I would be happy with an F or a G and go larger in size. A small table is a personal preference for me as I like to see a high crown.

G-H 2.00 please
