Beta James Allen Web Page

HI. I have been having problems loading both the beta jamesallen web page as well as the James Allen web page. Anyone else out there with this problem?

I'm not having trouble now, but early this morning when I logged on the page was presented in Chinese, and that's been corrected now. I think there were planning to make the site available to everyone without the need to register this week so maybe they are just experiencing some glitches along the way.

I have trouble with the page including:
-not being able to access any of my previous bookmarks or Pinterest pins - this is most annoying for me as I had a bunch of diamonds pinned to a Pinterest board and now I can't find any of them since the item numbers don't translate
-not being able to use the iPhone app to search for diamonds
-not being able to use the search function on a page properly (eg my search for "twisted" doesn't bring up the twisted pave shank setting)
-not having my filters stick when I look at engagement settings (eg when I select "yellow gold" that filter doesn't stick when I go beyond page 1 of the displayed results)
-pictures of the recently purchased examples for engagement rings settings don't show up

They are probably still working out issues so I'm going to give them a few days before bringing anything up

While most of the major bugs were worked out already this morning, there are dozens of smaller issues (some of which were pointed out by sortmon) that we'll address in the days ahead.

If you experience a problem and would like to help us get it resolved, we welcome feedback through the website or chat. My expectation is that within a week the vast majority of user issues will be fixed.

Mr. Schultz you did a beautiful job with the video feature for the FCDs.
Nice lighting and environment which is mostly soft and even enough to show the body color of the diamonds ... with just a touch of specular highligting to let diamond show off some dispersion but not too bright so the flashes overpower the body color.
Also, good choice to make the rotation speed that slow.
Being able to grab the diamond and manually rotate it is brilliant too.
What you have accomplished is not easy.
Colored diamonds are hard to photograph well and even harder to film.

It's nice to see FCDs growing in popularity.
There are sizes and colors for every budget.
Fancy Colored Diamonds are not just for millionaires.

With FCDs smaller sizes are the norm.
Nobody expects to see a natural 1 or 2 ct Fancy Intense Blue on people who are not rich and famous.
I find even a 10-point FCD to be moving if the color is good enough.

Because of the rarity and entire rainbow of colors I find FCDs so much more interesting to shop for and own than white diamonds.

Mr. Schultz, I must ask about this wonderful but mysterious pic.



At this high magnification the depth of field (which should be called depth of focus) is usually very shallow, even at small apertures.
Often focus is so shallow that the top and bottom of one diamond are a little soft, let alone four positioned near to far.
I'm trying to figure out how you got the near and far FCDs that much in focus.

I can visualize only two possibilities.
1. You combined four separate pics into one.
2. You achieved that depth of field by using a bellows with tilt and shift movements like this Nikon PB4.



Was it one of these or something else?
Which lens was used? Any bellows or extension rings?
No problem if you want to keep it proprietary.
I totally understand.

Whew! I'm relieved to learn this.
I seriously got a headache trying to figure out how you got that incredible depth of field.
I thought you had bucked the laws of physics and optics.
I have the Nikon PB-4 bellows but even with movements of the lens stage I can't get anything near that DOF!

I wish you well in the FCD business; they are soooo groovy and magical and out of love, not $$$, I have tried to work to get them into more hands.
I think Michele needs more than two; she needs a whole rainbow of a dozen on a bracelet.
I hope GOG, WF, CBI, and BGD also jump on board the FCD train.
Let's get a chicken in every pot AND an FCD on every hand.

No, that's not a feature we thought to include, but I can add it to the list.

Can I be so bold to ask how many diamonds you have to add to the comparison before you start wishing for a 'remove all' button? I know for sure it's less than 17,000, but never would have guessed the comparison page to have more than a handful of diamonds.

There is also no Comparison Link, I liked that, but not required.

It's good to have it past 4 or 5, I think. Maybe I'm lazy because it was a feature that is now gone!

I frequently add up to a dozen diamonds to the comparison. Since I am shopping for other PSers, not myself, it is useful to have a Remove All function; different posters are looking for different things.

There seems to be no way to search by cut quality when looking at princess cut diamonds. There also is no way to see the cut quality when looking at the details of a princess cut diamond.

Is this a glitch that will be ironed out soon?

That's was my concern. I know grading the cut of fancies isn't an exact science but it is helpful to have experts at least give you a general idea of what you are looking at since you won't have the stone in front of you. Looks as if ill have to depend on whiteflash and GoG when it comes to princess cuts.

Mr. James - I like what you've done with the site. It's really cool. I wish I had that available when I bought my stone last June. HOWEVER, it helps me now as my buddy is looking for a stone and I'm lurking on your site to help him find a stone! If I can find him the right stone, you better believe I'm gonna push him to buy from you!

I showed these diamond videos to my fiance today - he was shocked that all the round diamonds have "a weird little flat part on the top."

(Anyway, he learned about tables and crowns and crown angles today. He likes little tables, and would most prefer no table at all. The diamond we were looking at had a table of 55%, and he was all "Whoa, that's HUGE!")
