Best way to sell diamond?

Contemplating selling my diamond when I upgrade to a super ideal. Do people keep their old stones for sentimental value when they upgrade?

I am happy with the 1.04 carat size, but the cut is only very good. The proportions are fine, but the crown angle is 36...
Because it received a cut score of only very good, seems like it doesn’t have much resell value.

What do folks do when they upgrade?

I can see that GIA graded it as very good cut, however it scores 1.6 HCA :

and I would say according to the annotations on the chart it seems the 55% table is good for FIRE when the crown angle is 36:

I would not feel defeated, thousands of people buy non super ideal diamonds all the time. Sure you it may not sell for lots but it will sell! Please don't despair! As above poster I would try through a consignment service.

Maybe add videos and a link to HCA so potential buyers can see the diamond's performance better. Also if one of those you consign with has an ASET scope that could help also...If it looks good that is.

Actually I would think the description of the girdle may be more of a problem than the GIA grade

Obviously I can't see performance from photo, but I will say it is stunning. I do think it has potential to attract buyers, besides you only need one

Just took a look on diamond bistro to look at prices of approx. 1ct diamonds and maybe some are over priced but they are being sold with IGI/no certificates/lower colour grades. If I were in the market on diamond bistro I would be taking a good look at it over others!

Maybe just keep your expectations low regarding selling price so you do not get upset in the worst case scenario. ANY diamond, unless an auction worthy/super rare one, will sell for less than bought. Even Cartier/Tiffany/winston etc will sell for lower than what they were bought for.

Reality is about 50-70% is what you will recoup selling. Outliers exist obviously but that's a reasonable range.

The question becomes if that dollar amount makes it worthwhile for you to sell or keep. And also if you are a sentimental person or not.

The proportions aren't horrible. While 36 crown is steep and outside the normal recommend range, many seek 36 especially with that very complimentary 40.6 pavilion. Also you have a small 55 table. Both steep crowns and small tables are known you be firey stones.

I'm thinking the VG polish plays into it a bit.

Have you ever got an ASET of the stone? Or an idealscope? Wondering if some of the actual pavilions are dipping below 40.6 as the depth is only 42%.

I do think it is worth it especially as the HCA score is nice too. They have a $50 ASET SCOPE also.

I received a free ASET scope from Wink when I bought my stone but I haven't used it yet. I have 3 IS , 2 ASET scopes and 2 H&A scopes. Too many toys.

I’m more concerned about the girdle being very thin to thin more so than VG polish. I hope OP looks after it well and that the ring and stone doesn’t get accidentally knocked on the side. Thin thickness girdles can pose a durability problem.
