I have a dainty sterling silver chain, and well I'm having problems polishing it. It's starting to tarnish, just a little yellow right now. I've tried the cream polish and the silver cloths but they just doesn't get in all the little places. I've heard that those dips are too harsh on silver, is that true?

I'd never use a dip; not only do they eat the tarnish, they eat the silver!
Chains are a special pain to polish. Just keep at it with the cream. I put on latex gloves and stand over the sink (plugged of course) and use my fingertips. Some jewelers are good at getting silver pieces clean. Just be sure to ask them what they use.
And in case you didn't know, water and air are what tarnish silver.

try a small soft...very soft brush....

i assume you don't wear this chain often?
