Best sources for tapered baguettes?

I normally hang out in the colored stone forum and was hoping I could get some pointers on finding tapered baguettes, D color, VS and sized 8.5 x 3.6 x 2.5 for a ring I am planning. I would like DK to make the ring and his price to source the baguettes is over $4k. I want to see if I can source them cheaper. I am having a hard time finding baguettes on the recommended sites and would appreciate any pointers, especially if one vendor is known for baguettes. Thanks a lot!!

Maybe Ivy and Rose? I know they occasionally have some. Alex Park would be my next stop.

Yikes I would bet DK is competitive. I have seen some on eBay… you want naturals?

I checked Ivy & Rose and they did not have anything quite that big. I'll check Alex Park, thanks.

I just checked AP and no loose baguettes at all.

I would be concerned that sourcing independently, while meeting your size, color & clarity -
The cut is what is going to be the wild card. Are they really matching as a pair. & Is there any wonk anywhere that once set, will stuck out like a sore thumb- especially when looking for a bargain. Finding that bargain vendor to customer service you with plenty of macro pics of the exact pair you will receive.

But I get the thrill of the hunt -
Best wishes on it!

Out of curiosity, about how much of a carat would that be?

Great point especially in relation to DKJ pricing/comparison shopping. I’m sure depth in a ‘proper’ looking baguette ups the cttw, as well.

Yeah I’m thinking DK is the best source to ensure they match.

They must be high cttw for that price?

The wisest of words. Wonk will bother me like a burr in my shoe.
I could go hand cast for this price though--I have a couple of quotes that are lower but I believe they are using slightly shorter baguettes. I need to check.

Wait 4K was the price for the entire setting not just the diamonds?

Ditto @Dreamer_D ...does the $4k quote include the setting or just the baguettes?

Ok. Wow that price seems wild for 1cttw. But I suppose they are colorless.

Sorry I can’t help! These aren’t the type of stones we usually see people source on their own.

One option would be buying a used or vintage setting with baguettes…

So a total of $6k for the baguettes and setting? That does seem kind of high so I googled tapered baguette pairs just to see what came up and it seems they are not cheap. I am not recommending this vendor as I know nothing about them, but I see that they have this pair of H, VS1 .95 ctw for $4102.

And this 1.1 ctw, F VS1 for over $5k

I'm wondering if these prices are influenced by tariffs?

Those prices seem wild to me! I would have a hard time spending that on baguettes as I don’t think the cut optimizes diamond optics. I’d be tempted to consider other gems or labs or other shapes of diamond. I know what is not what OP asked lol!

Totally agree. I'm not a lab diamond person but I would definitely look for an old setting, even if it was just to harvest the side baguettes. Or I'd look for stones of a different shape. I wouldn't pay $4k for two half carat baguettes. But now at least we can see why DK's price came in where it did.

Op has a very specific size she is looking for so not sure how changing the shape works into what she wants, as you say.

Hopefully OP will come feed our curiosity but I think it is a setting for a very large colored gemstone. It could be worth just ponying up for the baguettes if it’s a specific look she has been pining for!

One ct in total.

Hard to say if this estate semi mount has the correct mm size you need. (8mm?) Maybe they’d provide a measurement for you?

Still- this route isn’t without risk…….. and want to say I have no exp with this vendor

Count me along with the ones who’d like to see your inspo pictures, if you’ll share.

Good find! Several people here have worked with or at least spoken to 47Jewelry, though I can't think of anyone immediately.

Here is that one you found and one other on his website where the prices are a bit lower than on Etsy:

Not much savings for those vintage settings over buying the baguettes new is there!

Wow, crazy that the baguettes are 4k elsewhere too. Thanks RFisher and newtojewels for finding those semi mounts! I am going to look at them now.

This is the ring I am going for, a classic Harry Winston type style and Dreamer, you are right--the center stone is my 8.6 ct. Aquamarine. So the size of it needs some chunky baguettes. The sizes are not written in stone I think lengthwise, because David did say to let him know if I wanted to use smaller baguettes. I think I need the large width to look right against the Aquamarine, which is 14.76x11.18x7.4.

Scroll thru DK’s IG to see if you can find if they’ve ever doubled up two smaller baguettes side by side to mock look like one bigger one? If you like the look of it and how it’s done - maybe that’d be a cost saving option?
