I''m just starting to look for diamond earings for my wife.

She has a very simple tiffany style solitaire with a 1.12 carat diamond (F VS2 heart and arrow). I am looking for diamond earings that will look good but not too big/small.

Any thoughts. What about these diamonds - each about 0.3 carats but is that too small for earings?

OR, would it be better to consider other diamonds?

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

not too small at all! i have .38''s and i think they are the perfect size. definitely not too small or too big.
the h/si combo is great but i would say you can very safely go down to ''j'' color and never notice a difference. they will face up very very white.
what a great gift!

I love H diamonds for earrings and that is what I am looking for as well. I think you can start with any size when you buy individual stones form WF since they can be upgraded later. I sort of have the idea in my head proportionally that I like the earrings total weight to be close to that of the e-ring diamond, so I''d think eventually you''d want to get her .5 ct. in each ear. But I think these .3 diamonds would be a very nice place to start!

Thank you for your help

What do you think about the specific diamonds that I suggested?

Thanks

Cary

I have a pair of diamond studs, .90 tcw. They are super-ideal cut, AGS-0 H&A stones. One is a J color and one is a K. Honestly, I cannot tell them apart, and they each are blindingly white to me. I LOVE the size, but I have seen smaller ones (in the range you are looking at) and they are WONDERFUL, too.

cg, what a nice gift! I'll just throw in my .02 here. The size you picked is very nice, but if you can afford it, I'd try and go a little larger. I just bought a pair of studs from WF, and I went for a diameter of 4.95-5.0. These were slightly under .50's. It's a wonderful size, definitely not too big, but noticable.

And I'm NOT a size girl, but if I could have swung it and not felt guilty, I would have even gone a lil bigger, maybe .65-.70ish.

Good luck!

Well, no one can say for sure what your own preferences would be (or hers) except for you two, but I can say that my earrings are both .55/.57, J/J, SI1/SI2, and they don''t show any color. They look wonderfully white.

When positioned on the ear as studs, all you really see is the face-up view; you don''t really see much of the profile or sides (where you''d potentially notice body color), so going with lower colors (I/J) lets you get larger stones without any visual sacrifice.

I personally like the .50-.60 per stud range. I had .38 stones, and they looked nice, but the .55s are far more noticeable but still not overdone for daily wear.

I''d probably go up to .75 per ear if the price hike wasn''t so much!

Thanks all for your help.

How much does cut matter for earings - does cut make that much of a difference?

Also, does GIA, AGS or EGL make much of a difference. Much of what I"m finding on whiteflash is EGL.

Thanks

So, I''ve been looking for a bit bigger of a diamond - just under 0.50 carats, J, SI1-2.

However, I haven''t been able to find too many - if I include 0.50 there are a bunch but teh price also jumps up. I found a few with blue fluorecense - will that make a big difference?

Also, I purchased my wifes wedding ring at whiteflash, and they have a free upgrade option (you never know) - do other places also?

Thanks again for your help.

Blue fluoresence is fine, as long as it doesn't make the stone (or stones in this case) appear milky or cloudy. Many of us actually prefer it. I just got diamond studs from WF and love them. I got ES studs and had them set in a martini WG setting. They are gorgeous and sparkle like crazy. I wanted AGS stones. GIA is great too. EGL has a reputation for being softer on their grading, so I avoided them in my search. Always best to call WF with any questions you may have, they were very helpful in my search. Good luck!!

IMO, cut is everything. I actually had a pair of studs bought pre-Pricescope, almost the same size as what I just recently purchased. They''re an ok cut, but compared to my new ones, they''re pretty sad. The difference is very noticable. Plus, with a great cut, you can have a smaller size and they will still be very noticable!

As Kaleigh said, stick with GIA or AGS. WhiteFlash does carry some EGL, but even if they turned out to be as they were graded, they are not upgradable. If you can''t find anything in the Expert Selection, and don''t want to pay the A Cut Above premium, you could always give them a call and have them look for what you want.

GoodOldGold is also a great co., who also has an upgrade policy. Might give them a call also and see what they can do!
