I recently bought an engagement ring and I would like to get it insured to protect it.

It appraised for $3350. I am probably going to put it on my homeowner''s insurance. Anybody have any idea what that would bump my premiums up by? Or, will it even matter enough to change my payments?? Not that it is an issue if it does, I was just wondering.

Thanks guys..

Most US homeowners policies charge between 1-3% per year of the policy limit (usually the value conclusion from the appraisal that you submit). The difference has to do with where you live, what you choose as a deductible, your claims history and details specific to the policy and company you choose. In your case you're looking at $30-$100/year. Ask your agent for a specific offer.

My (now destroyed) solitaire was insured with a rider on my homeowner''s policy. It was insured for $13,400, and the premium was $78/year. That might give you an idea. I''m not sure, if the premium on my new ring will be more expensive, since I had to file a claim on this one.
