Best round cut stone for 25K

I've been attracted to round cut stones around 1.9-2.2 cts, G color, VS2 or very high quality SI1s, and triple EX. GIA certified only.

I looked at the PriceScope search for VS2s with that combination and only came across 1 stone. 2 results showed but there was an error since it was just one stone listed twice.

Is this really such a difficult combination to find? Can someone help me find something better?

I live in NY and I would love to see it in person if possible. I've been to several wholesalers and retailers and everything in between but I never do the HCA scores until I get home and I'm in front of a computer which is making things a bit difficult. I posted in another thread that I found a stone but the HCA was a 6 so I will be passing.

I think you are using search incorrectly. Or maybe you are only selecting "in house."

Don't limit yourself to G VS2. You want to open it up D-G, IF-VS2, if that is what you are shooting for.

Have you considered what you could get at Old World Diamonds in a vintage cut stone? They're in NYC and I think you might be pleasantly surprised by what that budget can get you. Also, I would throw numbers out the window and look at some of these old stones in person, THEN look at the numbers. Ask Adam to hand pick a few for you to look at. Numbers are good, but you will look at it more than you will read a stone's numbers if you know what I mean? It's not for everyone but I have seen some just gorgeous old stones he has sourced. Worth a look...one of my faves on Pricescope is Ganesha's rose gold ring.

I just took a look at Old World Diamonds - it says it's all EGL stones. I would really prefer to stay with GIA in this search.

I did a search for Ganesha's ring - very pretty. I was considering a rose gold setting after walking into Graff and seeing a beautiful stone on a thin rose gold pave band with pink diamonds in the band. Of course the price was north of 250K for a 2.2ct stone there so I'd avoid both pink diamonds and major name brands after that sticker shock. Truly a beautiful ring if I ever saw one though.

Julie, do you think it's possible to get a VS2 in that price range or is SI1 the best I'd be able to do?

I think he cannot go higher than G VS2 if he wants an excellent cut 2 ct. stone at $25k. I am thinking he may need to go to H color which is fine in GIA stones, IMO.

Call Yekutiel at ID jewelry. He can call in diamonds that are not listed on pricescope search. Tell him you're looking for a G VS2 over 1.9 ct. Probably he'll come up with something.

I couldn't find any G/VS2.

Those G/SI1 stones are probably located in New York. Ask Yekutiel to call in and see for yourself if they are eye-clean.

I have a dozen SI1s on that link, I am sure that one of them will be eye-clean.

G VS2 would be difficult, you would have to go down to 1.8s or H color.

If it's a trustworthy seller, and you are willing to spend $150-$200 and wait a bit, you could send any final contender stone to GIA in NYC. I understand if it's over 2 carats they'll process it quicker.

I'm confused - what does this mean? You mean buy an uncertified stone and then have GIA tell me the color/cut? If so, I am paid to take risk on a daily basis and that is not a risk I would take ever...

I think she was referring to antique stones which are often EGL graded. GIA is more strict and some people want that grading as well.

Oh I see. That makes much more sense - duh. Maybe I will stop by there if the hurricane hasn't blown it away.

The thing you need to know is that antique stones usually score something like "good" for polish and symmetry, and their light return usually won't equal a modern excellent/ideal cut round. Some of us LOVE the looks of antique (and antique style) stones, but I really don't recommend getting something that is different like that unless you happen to know she likes antique rings. My inclination is that you should stick with the traditional modern round brilliant.
