Best RBC - 1.34ct range for under 5k?

For a well cut and approptiately graded old cut you pay the same as MRBs right now on the market. If you plan to get an old cut you can usually drop lower in color than you might be comfortable going in an MRB, which is one plus. But old cuts are not a way to get a "deal" per se unless they are poorly cut (which many are), and then its not really a deal.

If you want an old cut you can make your money go further if you buy a complete ring, diamond and mount, from an estate seller. I think it is a great option to consider for you. Or consider a second hand piece of modern make.

That is really weird what happened with Excel...that stone is still listed on their site and I know they had it in their possession as the other poster on PS saw it at their store in NY. Oh well, guess it is not the one.

Here is a listing on DB...maybe some other PSr's know this vendor, the OEC looks nice:

Welcome to the Old Cut Club on PS! They are the best when you find a nice one.

Can I ask which specific solitaire of LM's that you are considering? It's possible to find one very similar without the additional cost of having one hand forged. Unless hand forging is very important to you, I wouldn't pay the premium for it. There are so many lovely solitaire options available. Have you considered another vendor to custom a solitaire for you? You can still have custom without paying the hand forged price.

Christina, im going for a look similar to the one in the link below but with the single prongs and not the double-claw look. I believe its called the princessa.

Also, there is a LM solitaire setting minus the diamond that is for sale on loupetroop right now that use to hold a diamond similar to the size I would like however I understand Leon's pieces are made custom for the diamond and it would probably be quite difficult to find one to fit nicely into the setting... (link below) Would be a nice option as its half the price of purchasing directly from LM, LM has quoted me at 2k just for the setting.

Have you by chance looked at engagement rings direct? They make rings to look like Tiffany's and Cartier and stuff, with really delicate prongs. I think its a good substitute and would be a Lott better on the budget than LM

Hey Niel, I have not but ill check it out now, thanks!

so whats your budget now? If youre going with a new setting will you be selling the old one? Is it now 5k for the setting and stone?

Correct, ill go a tad higher for the right one but would like to stay under 5k. I think ill be able to make it happen. Its crazy how much that setting from ERD looks like LM's, I wonder if anyone here has pics of the real deal in person? Ive sent Yuki at IDJ an email inquiring on old mine's and have been combing loupetroop, diamondbistro, and ebay for some as well..

I've only seen pave work from them on here, really. But I bet if you ask them they would have pictures of there work.
