For a well cut and approptiately graded old cut you pay the same as MRBs right now on the market. If you plan to get an old cut you can usually drop lower in color than you might be comfortable going in an MRB, which is one plus. But old cuts are not a way to get a "deal" per se unless they are poorly cut (which many are), and then its not really a deal.
If you want an old cut you can make your money go further if you buy a complete ring, diamond and mount, from an estate seller. I think it is a great option to consider for you. Or consider a second hand piece of modern make.
