Ok. So thanks for your advice yesterday. I have a couple more questions:

1) For this stone is this the best price?

GIA cert
1.02 length to width ratio
(72%, 76%) table, depth
VG/VG Sym/Pol
G Color
ft Flouresence
thin-med girdle
1.20ct
$6000

2) Can any one tell me a creative way to get the ring size?

3) What should be the different percentages be for a princess cut? (crown, pavillion, depth, table)

4) Will a stone like this appraise for more or less?

5) Should I do any sort of shipping? Is UPS ok?

Thanks

Is $500 too much for a simple solitare platinum band and mounting costs?

Oops I missed the princess info.

Oh, I meant to mention that it is a princess cut.

The table is premium, depth is ideal according to the chart. I see what mean if it was a round though, but for a princess that seems very good.

Table: Premium cut
60%-72%

Depth: Ideal cut
64%-75%

It seems pretty good. I think the cut might have been crucial information, my bad.

What is the crown height of your stone? Do you have an ideal scope image? While the numbers you posted are not bad, they do not tell enough of the story. Do you have pictures of the stone?

As for your questions, can you borrow a ring from her without her knowing? If not, I would go to the mall with her and walk through a costume jewelry section in one of the stores. As you''re passing by, grab one of the rings, put it on, and say something stupid like, "of course I''ll marry you!" or "I think this is definitely the one". She''ll think you''re just being silly, but will probably want to try on a few herself. Or, you can ask a friend of hers to take her and figure it out.

In regards to appraisals, I think they are almost always double what you pay. I don''t know why, but they are. If the stone does not appraise for more than you paid I would be shocked. However, if you find a good appraiser like I have he/she may actually be honest with you and give you a solid appraisal. My appraiser always asks, do you want the inflated appraisal or what I would be willing to pay for the stone? I always ask for both, but listen more to the last.

In terms of shipping, I would use certified mail--USPS.

Square Range for a Princess Cut is
0.95-1.05

Does anyone else think that doesn''t make sense? The ration of the length to width should always be a number greater than or equal to 1. If the Width is longer than the Length- turn the diamond around, instead of being .95 it will be 1.053...Hey wait a second! Wouldn''t that mean that the real range of "square" would be 1-1.053?

I thought that was funny
