I live in Mount Laurel, NJ (5 minutes from Philly) but I work in NYC. I am looking for an engagement ring for my Girlfriend, but I am sadly not mad of money. I have a buget and I am looking for a Filigree ring like this:

http://www.antiquejewelrymall.com/r296.html

and a .75ct to .80 ct diamond for the setting. Or if not a single setting then a 3 gem setting simular to the attached picture with saphires on either side of a diamond but with filigree. (my girlfriend likes the antique style rings)

Mainly I am in need a a good place in NYC that will be able to work with me and my budget to product this ring. If someone has a suggestion in Philiadelphia, PA as well that would be great too. Or if you just have a general suggestion I would be grateful!

I found this on their site- even has a suprise sapphire on the basket! Looks like they can create anything your gf wants, especially if she is into the antique-looking stuff...good luck! Here is the description:

$2,650.00
stock# 8224

Center old european cut diamond weighs .63 carats, I color and SI1 clarity. This vintage diamond is set in a platinum ring which is an exact replica of an original circa 1920 antique engagement ring. The filligree design gives the center crown a very regal feel and is accented with bead set diamonds and sapphires. Currently size 5 1/2 and easily sized.

....And, they are located in the Diamond District in NYC. 10 W. 47th St......... Good Luck.

The mounting you showed is not called a filigree ring. It is a very standard three stone ring with a cathedral shank and 4 prong settings. It is readily available in Philly or NYC. A budget always gets in the way of getting what you might want, but I have no doubt that the mounting style can be had locally.

DO some Internet shopping and then come over to Jewelers ROw to see what you can do. We are always here to assist.

Dave, I think he means he likes the look of a diamond flanked by two sapphires, but he would like the mounting to be filigree. His link showed a filigree ring.

I bought a setting from antiqueengagementrings.com. I was satisfied with it. The quality is not that high, but it''s pretty nice looking and it was a lot less expensive than similar, higher quality settings. Leigh, the owner, is a very nice guy. If you''re on a budget, they''re worth considering.

Glitt,
Exactly how is aer.com''s jewelry not quite of high quality? Are the castings a bit off? (fuzzy details, pitting, etc.) Or are the stones/settings/prongs slightly crooked?
I''m very curious since they''re a top contendor for us.

Perhaps something like this? http://www.stuller.com/public/product.aspx?prodGrpID=944f4c10-58b3-40ea-8547-07c27d0ac62a&categoryID=b5e452c1-cd73-40f0-8e2b-4b453ee54ba6

Indie,

Exactly--it''s a cast of a ring that was engraved, so the pattern that would have been engraved looks blurry and the cut-out bits are blobby and wonky. But you only notice when you look at it through a loupe; from a normal viewing distance it''s fine.

Also it''s very light and delicate--not a single extra picogram of platinum went into this ring!

The six tiny sidestones look even--though now that I look at it closely, on some of them there are only two or three "beads" holding them in, where I would expect to see four. But the main stone, my stone, is very well set.

I love the overall effect, but if this were my engagement ring, I''m not sure I would choose this setting. I''m just not sure it will last to the next generation. I had an heirloom OEC set in a modern necklace that I never wore. I wanted to put it in a ring so I would wear it, and I wanted a setting from the appropriate period. I didn''t want to spend a lot of money. I loved that the aer settings are exact replicas of period pieces. I think I paid $650 or so for my platinum-and-diamond setting three years ago. It''s Stock Number L1009pl , now $825.

I''ll see if I can take a picture or two to show you what I mean. I might have to wait until tomorrow, though, since the sun''s going down.

Thank you very much for the help. The www.antiqueengagementrings.com site was great. I am going to schedule an appointment with them soon. Thank you very much again!!
