thanks rubybeth!

unfortunately, that james allen link didnt work but i think i know the one you are talking about.

My concern with that WF setting is the cathedral set... not sure she would want the band to shoot up to the main stone and sit high.

I think you convince me to go with a square radiant. now, just need to go to some local stores and see them in person to be sure.

Thanks a lot for everyone's help! I really appreciate it.

What about the Legato Micro Pavé instead? http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/legato-micro-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-1011.htm It's 2mm, not 1.8 -- how important is .02mm to you? But the diamonds go all the way down the sides and there's enough plain shank on the bottom to re-size, if needed.

This was the setting you posted originally and said you liked best, my link apparently died: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/18k-White-Gold-Thin-French-Cut-Engagement-Ring.html

Certainly check out princess cuts next to radiants in person. Keep in mind that prongs on a radiant will make it more squared off looking.

I would not pick /any/ square radiant...it is much harder to shop for a radiant than a princess. The X factors are well cut so you could go with one of those or call someone like GOG who can do optical tests and ask them to bring in some radiants in your budget.

also I think both settings you posted look...not so great...I think you can do better.

thanks for all the input!

2 questions:

1. Regarding princess vs. a square radiant, i am hearing opposing views on the price. Originally (after looking online), i thought you can get more bang for your buck with a radiant. But, i went to a local jeweler today to take a look at some and he told me that his princesses are 10% cheaper (for similar specs) and that they actually look bigger since square radiant tend to have more depth and therefore look smaller.

Now, my gf wants a square diamond. So, im between these two. I would think a square radiant would look even more square after its set than loose because the prongs will cover the cut corners.

Any thoughts here? It seems the more i learn, the more confused i get.

2. Regarding setting, i think im between the twist solitare from first post ( https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/engagement-ring-advice.166290/ ) or a Tiffany Novo clone look. Are there Novo clones out there in the $1k or less budget (preferably 2mm or less in band width... really looking for 1.8mm but i dont think it would make much of a difference)?

Thanks,

Chris

P.S. slg47, where are the X factors? is that on whiteflashes site?

hmm, I think 1k is low. GOG makes a novo replica that looks really nice, maybe ask them about pricing?

I can't really add much to this thread except yes many vendors do give a pricescope discount but there are restrictions. For example whiteflash I believes gives you 10% off when you buy the ring and diamond from them. In order to find out you will need to call each vendor and ask- or see if they are running some type of promotion.

this looks similar to me - http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-engagement-ring-white-gold_20311

however, in the pricescope archives, i found that many people said the noveau at bluenile was the tiffany clone...

http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-engagement-ring-white-gold_20312

You think the first one is pretty similar to the novo... still looking for one in the 1.8mm range.

Also, slg, regarding the stone (princess vs. radiant)... what are your thoughts as ive heard so many differing opinions. It seems you have a lot of knowledge in this aspect and i would love to pick your brain with your thoughts on the comparison (pros and cons)

Thanks!

sorry, just saw this message. I am by no means an expert but I read a lot on PS.

I think it is easier to shop for a princess cut, so unless you are sure she prefers a radiant I would go with a princess. For princesses, AGS grades cut quality so you can get an AGS0 and be assured you have a well cut stone.

thanks for the thoughts... what do you think of these stones:

looks good

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2670565.htm
I wouldn't bother calling this one in...there may be a fee associated with bringing it in for evaluation and nothing makes it seem like a particularly good candidate. in general you want table to be less than depth.

in general with princess cuts since you can't go by the numbers I don't think it is usually worthwhile to call in virtual stones. the virtual stones are not in-house and WF does not have images of them. all of their in house princess cuts (ACA/ES/PS) have images, etc.

thanks!

P.S. is there a way to search for ASG0 stones?

Just my 2 cents to say that I'm in love with the first one setting. Adorable and classy!

stci, you are talking about the BN setting right?

slg, thanks for your thoughts on those stones. I might look for something at BN since it looks like im going to get the setting there. Would you suggest i only search for "ideal" cut stones there?

thanks,

Chris

hey guys,

just wanted to keep you updated... talked with a REALLY nice lady from WF today. reserved a stone... just want your opinion on how it compares to others... i posted a new thread about which stone is best but i will copy below for your thoughts since you have been following my process... Thanks again!

"My gf wants a square diamond. So, im between a square radiant and princess cut. I spoke with someone at WF at length this morning and we took a long look at this one: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/radiant-cut-loose-diamond-373349.htm

how do you think that compares to the rest of these from blue nile? Which would you pick?

http://www.bluenile.com/radiant-cut-diamond-1-carat-very-good-cut-f-color-si2-clarity_LD02272296

http://www.bluenile.com/radiant-cut-diamond-1-carat-or-less-very-good-cut-g-color-vs2-clarity_LD02104217

http://www.bluenile.com/princess-cut-diamond-1-carat-or-less-very-good-cut-f-color-si1-clarity_LD02097052

http://www.bluenile.com/princess-cut-diamond-1-carat-or-less-very-good-cut-g-color-vs2-clarity_LD02278973

If it helps it will either be on a tiffany novo type setting ( http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-engagement-ring-white-gold_20311 ) OR this one ( http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/legato-sleek-line-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-422.htm )

Thanks for your help and advice in advance!
