I have a couple of weeks to pick out my engagement ring. I’ve done a lot of research and everything seems to point to James Allen. However, a handful of reviews I’ve read (most have been positive but some have had issues) has me a little hesitant. Any opinions would be appreciated! (If something like this has been posted before, please point me to it, and my apologies.)

Hi, I’m no diamond expert, it is best to repost in “Rocky Talk”.
Let them know what your budget is ie diamond and what your preferred shape / colour and clarity is.
After shape, you want the biggest, brightest and clearest diamond for your money.
Depending on your priorities, the experts will provide suitable stones.
There are a number of recommended vendors and many also provide settings as well. It can be easier to buy both from the same vendor, however there’s plenty of options regarding people who design and create settings.
In relation to Pre loved diamonds, ie already set in rings, whether bought from an online vendor or a “bricks and mortar” store, you need a diamond report as a minimum. It is from this information that the diamonds experts here can tell you if the diamonds performance ie sparkle in all environments is fair, good or excellent.
Unless you pockets are very deep, there will probably have to be some comprises. To get the desired carat weight, you might have to drop down in colour and / or clarity.
It’s important to note that most differences in colour ie down to H or I are very hard to detect for most people. Likewise an SI clarity diamond can be “eye clean” due to the nature and position of the inclusions. Diamonds are graded at x10 so that’s higher than what a persons eye can see,
In my opinion what you don’t want to compromise on is the quality of the cut. A poor cut makes the diamond less sparkly in all environments and seeing as that’s a very important attribute of choosing a diamond it is not an area you should compromise on. That’s why you need the measurements, these are key to understanding how a particular diamond will “sparkle”. And the positioning of the inclusions as per the plot graph will indicate whether or not they will be prominent or basically unnoticeable.
So pop over to “Rocky Talk” and ask away.
