Happy Sunday, all!!!

I just came from my kitchen sink after attempting

to grab the stuff I use to clean the kitchen counters (clorox bleach spray) and I had, oh, 5 or 6 things fall out on the floor

. It''s getting ridiculous with the lack of space in my apartment but I figure maybe I can consolidate with the cleaning supplies?

Anyone use a great multipurpose that really does a great job at all kinds of things? I''m talking something that could do floors, cabinets, showers, toilets, even mirrors, mircrowaves etc? I''d really like to get it down to like 3 things. No one in my household is alergic or is offended by any certain type of cleaning agent. I''d love it to be antibacterial or bleach-based but I don''t know if that''s possible.

1) Something really great at general all-purpose stuff
2) Wood cleaner/polisher
3) Dish soap

Any recommendations on #1 (or, if it''s even possible, somethign that does #1 and #2?), my apartment and I would thank you for it

Last year I also trimmed down my cleaning supplies! It seemed that all of my undersink cabinets were brimming with cleaning products. I read Martha Stewart''s home care book and it really stressed paring down those cleaning supplies, and how less is more.

1. As far as an all-purpose cleaner that can tackle anything... that''s just what you want! If you buy a concentrated all-purpose cleaner, it can be used for anything. Pour a bit full strength into toilets, keep some diluted with water in a spray bottle for counter tops, pour into a sink or bucket of hot water to mop and clean your floors with. I splurged and love Caldrea''s products, they smell divine, not like cleaners. Here is the all-purpose cleaner that I have http://www.caldrea.com/detail.aspx?ID=130

2. I wouldn''t really recommend antibacterial or bleach products for cleaning most of your home. They don''t actually add that much good, and those chemicals are so harsh! Save any products like that for serious, serious hazard messes.

3. So you''ll need an all-purpose cleaner, but you''ll also want another product for cleaning glass and mirrors to get them streak-free. I just keep white vinegar and water in a spray bottle for that, but you could purchase a separate streak-free cleaner for this. I don''t have any advice for wood cleaners, I just dust mine and wipe down with a slightly damp cloth.

Good lucking finding the right cleaners for you. I just recommend finding something that you love, keeping it simple, and trying to reduce the really harsh cleaners!

Thank you, Lindsey! I'll go check out that cleaner you suggested now. I'm curious as to how much it will be since you mentioned your splurged

I'm open to any other suggestions!


ETA: Just checked it out and I love green tea stuff It does seem pricey for cleanser but it's concentrated so I bet it'd last a long time. I'll consider it.......altho I'd have to order online as there are no stores in my area.

Windex or Pledge, I forget which, makes a cleaner that can be used to clean glass or dust wood, we ran out a couple months ago and I''ve been using swiffers and another glass cleaner, but I have to remember to grab some of the windex/pledge again next time I''m out, I loved it.

Simple Green is another multi-purpose one, it''s biodegradable and all that good stuff, and you can dilute it and use it pretty much everywhere except on wood surfaces. I like it for the bathroom, esp. cleaning the tub.

Monarch~ That sounds like a great plan as I end up with only 2 and not 3 cleaners I didn''t know windex made such a product and I will very likely pick it up next time I''m out. Thanx!

Oh, do you know if Simple Green is a product I can buy at my local supermarket or is it more exclusive? I think I''ve heard the name before but don''t know if that''s from seeing it in "person".

You can get Simple Green at "normal" stores. My mom used to buy that stuff and we cleaned everything with it. Ah, fond memories of bathroom scrubbery...

How about a more natural cleaner? White vinegar. It has so many great uses from cleaning floors, to kitchen & bathroom surfaces, to windows etc.. Here is a link with multiple uses. http://www.thenewhomemaker.com/vinegar

Also, baking soda is a good scrubbing agent for sinks, tubs, grout etc.. even makes a great; cheap body/face scrub just mix a good amount with cleanser in your palm.
