Hi everyone,

Newb here, just starting my e-ring search. This is the setting I had my eye on (but not for emerald cut) http://www.danhov.com/engagement/danhov-abbraccio-swirl-emerald-halo-engagement-ring-width-aligned-ae100-emew.html

It says it can fit a stone 0.75-1.5, so that would be the range I'd be looking at (pref 1-1.5). Out of all the various square and squareish cuts, wwhich gives the most value (price per ct) and sparkle? I know there are many factors of sparkle, but some cuts just don't have the same bling look. Budget is ideally 5k, but up to 7k for a really amazing stone.

So looking at: cushion, square radiant, princess, asher.

Any insight or advice would be excellent!

Those stones are all very different styles of cut - do you have any idea what she wants? Just blindly, I'd go with an ideal cut square H&A.

Just square/square-ish and sparkly. It used to be only a princess cut, but she also likes the looks of the cushion and radiant as they appear more brilliant. She has stated fairly recently that the shape is less important than the overall asthetic, which seems more vague... Hence why I come here for help!

A square cushion sounds like the ideal thing - the best light performance while still having a square shape.

Take a look at Good Old Gold (Brellia, Jubilee, Asschers and Octavia Asschers, and Princess of Hearts) http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamondSearch.php and Brian Gavin's new H&A cushion - http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/brian-gavins-cushion-hearts-and-arrows/ and James Allen for princesses and asschers and a few cushions http://www.jamesallen.com/

Here are a few examples:

$7,421 - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10047/ (click on "Reserve Diamond" to see the price, then just 0 out the quantity)

$6,692 - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10834/

$4,900 - http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/d.../0.901-i-vs2-cushion-diamond-ags-104065157006

And don't focus too much on carat weight - the dimensions are important as that is what you will see

I like cushions and asschers best of all of those, because I think they will stand the test of time. I also highly recommend Good Old Gold as they have a variety of cushion styles as well as asschers. They called in a couple of asschers for me to choose from since they didn't have what I wanted in stock. It helped me sooo much that they compared them for me in a video.

I am going to advise against that setting, though, unless it is the one she absolutely wants most in the world. The shank is too thin at 1.6mm and will make it delicate and at risk of getting bent, etc. In addition, the way the stone sits up high on those thin swirls is also a recipe for disaster. Please look some more and once you choose a diamond, post a thread on settings and people can give you some suggestions.

Thank you both for your input. This setting is my favourite so far, very delicate and unique which I know she wants, but I obviously don't want to risk damaging it.
