I'm attaching before and after pics of the diamond ring I was given for my last birthday. The stone belonged to my grandmother. I believe it is slightly over a karat, but I don't know much more than that. The jeweler told me it was an "older cut," but I'm not sure exactly what that meant.
My uncle placed the stone in this men's setting for him at some point. I generally like thick, substantial rings, so I didn't want to change the setting or place it in a more feminine setting. I did, however, have a local jeweler add a bezel around the diamond. I was very pleased with the results, because I think for such a minimal change it made the ring look more finished and the diamond a little bigger.
After previewing my post I realize I should have taken pics from a more similar distance but I think you can still get the point...
