I finally jumped in and got myself a second ring. This… thing.

And oh it is definitely a thing. An antique French five stone with three sapphire sugarloaves and two old European cut diamonds. The sapphires (advertised as natural, more likely synthetic imo) are so abraded they have a matte finish. One of the diamonds is shattered and being held together by the setting. Hell even the engraving is squished and scratched.

And I LOVE it. I think it is SO cool. I love the worn away finish on the sapphires and the cracks through the one diamond in contrast to the other.

Do you guys have any beat up jewelry pieces that you really love? Or any fixer-uppers that went through it all to get repaired?

As a matter of fact, I do!

I gambled on an emerald ring on eBay, being sold by an individual who otherwise sold clothes. It was her grandmother’s ring supposedly. Terrible pictures, but a blue undertone in the emerald.

When it arrived, the emerald was electric, but so abraded that it was rattling in the bezel. I got it recut and polished, and my local bench built up the bezel and remounted it. GIA said it was Columbian, no oil. It’s a treasure, and I’m sure yours is too!

It’s the pinky ring. I couldn’t bring myself to resize it.
