I have more choices now--WF is getting in more stones in the .7 -.8 range. I assume being ACA they are similarly sparkly, HCA under 2 for all, Fluoro negligible, culets pointed

1. J VS2 .77carats 5.89-5.90mm Girdle thin-med Crown angle34.9 PAV 40.9
WF says faces up white $2300 (The original one in question)

2. I SI1 .72 5.75-5.80 thin-med CA34.7 Pav 40.7
I guess about $2410 I didn't specificall ask about this stone

3. I SI2 .808 5.95-5.98 thin-slightly thick CA34.8 PAV40.6
WF says eye-clean $2462

Would any be a "wrong" choice?

So I don't know what to do!!!!! I was going to get the J on/off on/off then ON, then got e-mail on newer additions. I bet I would be happy with any of the diamonds but would love to hear your choices.
Best clarity and price has lowest color
Biggest size and color has lowest clarity and highest price
Middle of the clarity, higher color has lowest size but close to highest price

Is thin to slightly thick girdle on #3 important?
I also thought about buying #1 and #3 and sending one back.

I am heading into that dangerous territory of paralysis of analysis (Ok maybe I hit it yesterday). I once was asked in a jury selection why I might not be a good choice and I said I had a hard time making up my mind--I did NOT get chosen!

I also thought I just might say, WF--Surprise me!

Thanks for all your help. I promise this is the last set of questions--next post will be the beautiful diamond I get!

Go big or go home!

I'm really not a round expert but I do know that most around here would need more info -- do you have angles or any more specs on all three?\

Bigger & lower color seems hard to beat so I like #3 so far -- but that's based on color & size only!

ETA: though now that I know the girls in your office are going around saying "one carat minimum" -- I kinda vicariously want some magic "K" with blue flor, just under 1 ... like .94 or something -- that you could get away with saying "a carat" ... to just appear. I'm SO BAD!!!

Anything like that in their new shipment???

Nope--nothiing like that, sorry. "Go big or go home"--

so cute! I've edited orig post to include angles--I didn't at first cos those seemed so much the same.

Oh and the other, Table and Depth, again they seem almost identical to me:

1. Table 56.5 Depth 61.6
2. 56.5 61.4
3. 57.2 61.4

Larger measurements you are looking for, but SI1 instead of SI2. Just slightly more. No uploaded AGS or images yet, looks like it''s new to their inventory.

If that #3 of your choices is an eye clean S12, then it should certainly be in the running.

Yes, I saw that too, but I just keep creeping up in price and when I saw the $2600 I thought- time to stop. My original thought was I would get 1/2 carat and spend $1500! Two weeks later I'',m up to .8 and an additional $1000!!!!! Another little part of me says you started out 28 years ago with 1/5 of a carat, for heaven''s sake, upgrade like you mean it!

I really like diamond #3. It''s so funny because I bought a 0.808 I SI2 just 2 weeks ago (still waiting impatiently!!!) and that was the replacement. Just remember to ask if it''s eyeclean. Good Luck!

Then if your stone #3 is eyeclean - go for it! If you don''t absolutely think it''s the most beautiful thing - then return it! WF has a return policy for that. I just got a .831 G/SI1 from them last week. When you get your ring - you should be thrilled - and I think you would be with that #3 - but WF also has your back on these kind of worries. Have fun, relax, and just wait until you get that ring. Is it one of their ACA stones? They are beautiful!!

I agree!

I started out 25 years ago with not much bigger than you. I upgraded last year to a 1.40. You should at least get/deserve a 1 ct.!

Ellen, congratulations on your upgrade. Have you posted it so I can see? Did you upgrade settng too?

If money were no object I''d probably (yea, right, "probably"
20.gif
) go bigger, but I''m almost afraid .8 is going to look too big on my setting. I Still have one in college with an excellent sense of fashion! I have probably spent 2carats worth of money on her clothes! WF will have the stone back at their lab the end of this week, so I have a few more days to think.

I guess I wanted to make sure there was no clear winner or loser in the bunch. I am beginning to realize I have three fine choices and I can just bask in the sparkle of my diamond when I finally get it. BTW--Jared''s peerless diamond was $4600 for a .7 or .75 (can''t remember) so I have already "saved" over $2000. That''s when I first heard about hearts adn arrows and those diamonds were so much better looking that I said I am getting a stone that good or I''m getting none at all.

p.s. I really don''t care about the difference between .72,.77,.808 , I don''t think I''ll notice that, I want sparkly and pretty, pretty and sparkly. Would one be more gorgeous?

Thank you! I''ll give you the link to it at the end of this.

Ah, girls. I suppose this is one time I''m glad I had 3 boys.
2.gif

Are you putting this in your original setting? and if so, any way you could post a pic?

As far as these 3 go, they''re all going to be beautiful. I''d probably go for the biggest. Or, you could ask WF to compare and decide for you. The size difference between these won''t be huge.

Here''s my ring.

Oh my! Ellen your ring and earrings are gorgeous. I love your setting, it is the one calling to me, too, but my bank account keeps hanging up on it!! I plan to keep my current ring now (since I''m going to spend so much on the diamond) and maybe have a local jeweler make an x-prong with engraved flowers on it like my present ring. I suppose it sounds very 1979 ish but I still love the look, but in white gold this time around. I may be in dreamland cos I really don''t know what that will cost. I think your 1.4 looks so awesome in that setting but I am afraid mine would look too small, so another reason to make my own is to make a thinner band.

I usually don''t spend money on myself either and I need carpet desperately but I just so WANT this even if Idon''t understa)d why. And now I see those beautiful earrings!!! Dangerous territory ahead!

lol @ hanging up!

You might be surprised at what it would cost for a custom WG band, might not be that bad. If there''s a few places in your area, I''d get a price from them all.

And you get what you like, it''s your ring!

I happen to like engraving.

And thank you so much for the compliments!

Don''t know if I did it right but here is my drawing of the ring I am thinking about having made--next anniversary, maybe. I haven''t seen an x-prong in anything less than 1 carat, so what do you think of a .77 or .8 in this type? If I have it made I think I''ll go local if nothing else, for the ability to communicate what I want. And I will try to show my present ring, which have always loved.

I love your drawing! I think that would be really pretty.

As far as size goes, you had mentioned making your band slimmer. Not that the size diamond you''re looking at is small (it''s not), but the xprong band is pretty wide, I think it would dwarf your stone. If you go with a thinner band, I think it would look great!

Hope this works--here is my present ring with 1/5 carat diamond, I would say engagement ring and wedding ring about 5 mm total?, this was 4.5 size originally and re-sized to 5 as my knuckles got bigger. I am debating about adding the diamond to this or new custom ring--any comments? Also anysuggestions on the new head if I change it out? 4 or six prongs? is 6 too many for the .7-.8 I am getting? the reason it is soooo closu-up is cos that was how originally I was trying to reduce size.

Loce the drawing -- very romantic. I think it will show off the diamond perfectly. Good job.

I think your rings are just gorgeous! They can put in a new head to fit the new stone. Honestly, I replaced my old yg rings because they were just plain anyway. But yours are so gorgeous I wouldn''t want to change them. If you really want white gold, you can certainly have them rhodium plated. White gold is rhodium plated anyway. Or if you wanted platinum, perhaps a custom jeweler could make a mold of your current rings and reproduce them in platinum. But the least expensive option would be to rhodium plate the rings you have.

There is a maker of rings similar to yours. They are gorgeous but very expensive.

Oh, and 4 or 6 prong is just personal preference. I might go with 4 on a stone that size.

Your drawing is absolutely terrific...so talented!

But I must say I love your old set, too. There's something so rich about the carved yellow gold....

ETA: I just went back and checked your old threads...28th anniversary!! Congratulations! I know this is way late, and you probably don't need another thought, but here goes anyway: Are you absolutely settled on getting a round brilliant?

I ask because some other cuts face up bigger with the same carat weight...marquise, pear, and (I think) oval...I mention this because I gather size is an issue..

Again...I really do love your old set. I agree diamondseeker. Van Craeynest was the first thing I thought of when is saw it!

Thanks all for your kind comments on my drawing but I have to admit I cheated a little, and superimposed my drawing on top of a copy of the Vatche x-prong ring I liked. Also--I am considered the "artistically-challenged" member of my family--and consider myself a very bad artist(my siblings would win art contests and I never-ever did). That''s what happens when you grow up with more talented brothers and sisters. When I was playing Pictionery (remember when?) with my husbands family they were so impressed with my "talent"--I told that to my sister and she spewed out the coffee she was drinking--she was so surprised! Me? a good drawer? She was unclear on the concept!

Diamond seeker--thanks sooo very much for that link!!! I am so in love with the designs. I especially like the more antique darker gold. It is helping me to visualize what the carved look is like in white-gold. I am so much more drawn to it in the gold color but in the silver my heart goes "neh--whatever" instead of pitter-pat. I am really reconsidering now.

And yes, I thought 6 prongs would be 2 prongs too many for that size. Wasn''t there a post showing a ring with mega-amounts of prongs and some-one with a dry sense of humour posted, gosh if it only had a few more prongs. . . .

FYI, I was married amost 28 years ago and the ring set including diamond cost $400. I fell in love with the setting because it reminded me of my favorite ring from childhood (maybe I''ll try to post) .

Here is my inspiration ring from the 6th grade.

Widget--Yep, I''m set on RB--It is what I always expected in a wedding ring. And I am waaaay happpy I can afford to get a.7 to .8 It is the biggest I ever thought I would get in my life and it is beyond my expectations. I just wanted to make sure if I went with an x-prong it wouldn''t be overwhelmed, but as I am rethinking everything I may not go that way. I think it will really pop on my band. I would''ve been happy with a .5 and if anything weird happens financially between now and Monday-- I would do that and be wildly happy, too. BUT I have also really loved living vicariously through all your your beautiful rings. They are amazingly beautiful.

I just wanted to say how glad I am to see you are upgrading. I began with a 1/5 ct (21 points) diamond 32 years ago and upgraded to 1.50 ct F VS2 on our 25th. (My company got sold and paid out a one-time big bonus.) I can assure you that you will really enjoy your new stone! If my original set had been as pretty as yours, I definitely would have just switched out the head and put in a new stone. My jeweler orders from the Stuller catalog and they have ring parts there.

I''d go for the best color you can afford, with no visible inclusions. With ACA, I agree, they should all be sparkly! Congratulations on your anniversary!
