HI:

Just finished remodelling bathroom #1. Turned out very well! Will do the other three and kitchen as well.

Please supply any inspirations for kitchens cabinets (did the granite and backsplash already) and bathrooms (Master, another high traffic area, and powder room) at will.

HOWEVER, TODAY I need ideas on how to hang towels in the bathroom: rules: I am not having anything put back on the walls i.e. no towel bars or hooks, and I do not want any hanging towels on the custom glass door, and I do not want a towel stand. Also I do not want any hooks on the bathroom door........

IDEAS?????? Ideally I want some cool funky "thing" that I can hang from the ceiling close to one wall for a hand towel, and perhaps something cool looking to hang over the back of the door. Anyone come across stuff like this? Am I :twirl: ?

I am out of the decorating loop and need ideas. Thanks!!!

cheers--Sharon

i suppose you could suspend a "funky" ladder.

Holy moly! At first I read your post as you will do your other three kitchens as well! And I was thinking mansion!!! Haha

Or maybe you do live in a mansion :naughty:

Hi CG,
I have no suggestions for you....but,I'd love to see pics of the remodels! I love looking online for inspiration but I think it is most useful to see rooms that people actually use and live in....although I have a feeling your remodels are showroom quality!

I am a terrible picture taker--never on vacations, or of my jewels! And you give me a lot more credit than I deserve! But thank you nonetheless....

What about a cool coat rack? It would sit on the floor but isn't your standard towel rack. Not sure what style your bathroom is but Restoration Hardware has some cool ones:

Cool idea! Looking for cool ideas like this! Thanks!

BTW, I did see some gorgeous ceiling hooks after searching...I'd love to find some cool coil tubing or retro style loops to hang the hand towels on......

ETA: is it wrong for me to love my Toto toilet?

Wow, that's a PS'er's sink if I ever saw one!!

We're just in the finishing stages of building a beach house so we designed a kitchen and 3 baths, but we didn't do any towel fixtures hanging from the ceiling so can't be of much help on that one. If you have other questions though, I'd be happy to answer if I can.

RW:

What style of kitchen? Colors? Finish on cabinets? Did you keep the same product line (i.e. Kohler or Toto) through the house, or did that not matter to you?

Did you get any stand alone tubs? I have my "eye" on a few...... Sorry if this is TMI but I like those "squirty-cleany" toilets.... ;))

And yes, that sink has my name all over it.....

Just a couple of questions:

You want to hang hand towels from the ceiling by a wall? Is this to dry your hands from washing your hands? I take it you want the hanging mechanism to hang down a few feet so that you can put the towels on it easily?

Where are you going to put larger towels for the shower/bathtub? Is that for back of the door? Is the door by the shower/ bathtub?

Btw, I always hear wonderful things about Toto toilets.
That sink is beautiful!

I agree on the sink! My long time plumber says he is never called to fix TOTO toilets. I like that they are USA made. I'll like the water saver tech. I like the inside of the bowel--looks purdy. :D Hence I'll buy them.

I must admit wanting to "unclutter" if that is possible--removing towels from bars....from my sight.

I have found some over-the-door hangers--can hang the towels there, open door and out of sight. The hand towel presents a problem because if you don't want to put it in a wall on a hook etc, or from the floor on or a surface or on the shower door----then you have to suspend it. You do need something handy--clsoe to the wall by the sink. I thought something retro would be cool if I had the fortitude to find it; and since lots of kitchens hang pots from ceilings--there are lovely ceiling hangers out there.

We did Toto toilets in all 3 bathrooms just because they're awesome and such a good value. I like the idea of a washlet, but I didn't like how they looked in real life with the water line, etc.

Most of our sinks are Kohler, but I didn't care about having all the same brand so much as we went with white cast iron sinks everywhere and I liked their styles and prices. I just picked what I liked that was in budget. The only sink that isn't Kohler is the bar sink. I like the look of a stainless sink, but I find them to be too much upkeep. Because this is a vacation house, we wanted everything to be as low maintenance as possible. So that dictated a lot of our choices too.

The style of the house is classic beach - white walls, white windows, honey-colored wood floors. It sort of glows in the summer and should still be light and airy during our gray weather - which is most of the time in the PNW. The kitchen cabinets are white too, and much to my surprise I ended up with dark gray/black honed granite for the countertops. It looks more like soapstone than granite. The white and black turns out to be a sort of a classic look that's popular right now, but I sort of backed into it by not finding any granite I liked better. The dark color grounds the kitchen and prevents it from being too white, and I really like the honed instead of polished surface.

The kitchen is also the biggest room in the house by far. No matter what kind of function we have, everyone always ends up in the kitchen so we made it big enough that everyone could be in there and I could still cook. The architect thought I was crazy, but I'm so glad we did it. And we made it so there is a lot of working space, but not a big empty space in the center where people sort of mill around and don't know what to do to stay out of the way. It's a big contrast to our other kitchen which becomes completely dysfunctional when we have guests. It pays to really think about what you like about your current kitchen and baths, how you really use them, and what you'd like to do differently in the remodel.

We didn't do a stand alone tub, partly because of cost, partly because of space, and partly because we don't use a bathtub very often, but when we do, we like to have jets. I love, love, love the look of stand-alone tubs but the ones I liked the best were usually the most uncomfortable and hard to get in and out of. Be sure to cast aside your dignity and actually climb into the tub and sit there for a bit. It's amazing how many gorgeous $3000 tubs felt terrible to actually be in. Plus, I wasn't a fan of the way some of them have to be plumbed. I'd only do one if I could have the tub filler and the control valve on the wall. Having them separate and stand up next to the tub spoils the clean lines for me.

I have no suggestions for you Sharon, but I love the sink you've chosen!!! :appl:

I was asking about the location of the towels just to make sure that they would be located in a functional location.
Have you thought about a paper towel holder to put on the vanity? I actually think hanging something from the ceiling sounds like it would add visual clutter because your eye would be drawn to it because it's unusual. How about something like this:

RW: Your place sounds dreamy. Enjoy it!

Very good suggetion to actually lay down in the tub--and I love my baths so comfort is important to me. There are Kohler showrooms I can visit to get a "feel" for the product. Or TOTO also, but they don't have nearly the selection.

I like the sleek look of laquer for kitchens but too impractical for me. Because my granite is very complicated as is my backsplash, I think I will gt a greyish taupe color/stain in the kitchen...french country look, if YKWIM. Not sure about hardware--if any at all. I need to do more homework here.

I really dislike decorating--I jsut want it done and for someone to make all the decisions; but alas somewhere along the way I have to suck it up!

Thanks for chmining in!
