Okay, so my job in the next two weeks is to finally get my Christmas/birthday/finishing postgrad presents set-two 0.8ct RB AGS0 diamonds into earrings.

I''ve read a bunch of threads and have been trying to decide between:
1.a standard basket setting (which may have droop probs by the sounds of things) or
2. a martini setting (4 prongs a la FacetFire
30.gif
) or
c. 3 prong martini which seems to be more common.

I hope FF doesn''t mind my posting her thread-I love her e-ring too...
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/yay-my-new-1-5-cttw-custom-four-prong-martini-studs-from-quest.54237/

Any examples of the genre are appreciated-particularly the 4 prong which I am concerned would give these babies a ''square'' look but FF''s don''t have that at all!

Does anyone have a similar size in the basket and not notice droopage?

Any and all debate appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Gemma

gemma, have you looked through the stud thread yet? Should be examples of all in there. It''s by diamondseeker.

^I was going to ask that. . . lots of recent conversation about this very topic

They also make three prong baskets (not trying to confuse you more!)

Thanks so much everyone for your rapid responses:

Ellen and ringabling: thanks!

Mrssalvo-thanks for posting that link!

Tacori-thanks for that too-I saw them as well! Whiteflash really know how to do prongs...

Great to have another flick through that thread-it was instrumental in choosing the right size so thanks diamondseeker for starting it! (Mind you, my ''right size'' is probably about 3ctw, but that will have to wait....

) Most people seem to have martinis too which is where I''m leaning....

I think the four prong problem is that I''ve seen baskets with really chunky prongs that sit high up away from the ear. It sounds like that is the biggest factor in the drooping problem and no-one has complained about that with the martinis. I love the way the martinis kind of snuggle into the ear too

. I wear mostly YG but want these set in white metal-hence the dithering about number of prongs.

Anyhoo, I''ll have another squizz around the site and see how many 4 prong ear shots I can come up with!

Thanks again

Gemma, I sincerely do not understand the drooping comments about basket settings unless the stones are 2 carats each, or something! Basket settings have a flat bottom which allows them to sit flat against the earlobe. The only way they could droop is if the back wasn''t pushed on far enough, and that could make any kind of earrings droop! The main difference between the martinis and baskets is that martinis make the diamonds almost recessed into the earlobe, whereas the basket has the stones sitting on the surface of the earlobe. I do think it is personal preference and I do like both. But since I have .75 each in 4 prong baskets, I can tell you that they do not droop. And 4 tiny little prongs still make the stones look round!

Thanks Diamondseeker-I can''t remember where I first heard it, but I thought I remembered a thread here by someone who went baskets -> martinis because of drooping in a smaller size.

Also there were comments on the thread about 1.5ct drooping so I wasn''t sure if it could happen in smaller stones.

Didn''t realise yours were baskets-that''s good to know! They look fantastic, a terrific size on your ear

. Thanks so much for the stud thread! I promise to post ear shots when they are set.

And thanks for your reassurance on prongs, too!

I like the look of 3 prong martinis better than four prongs. I think they really highlight the stone best and make the stone look more round than 4 prongs.
