Huh, now that''s unusual! It looks a bit like a checkerboard cut at first, but I think it''s sort of like a very large baguette where the pavilion and the crown have been turned by 45 degrees. I wonder what the dispersion is like on that in person ....

Oh, I''ve seen that cut before in person! I can''t remember what the name of it was, but one of the mall stores used to sell them. The store had a line of modified cuts with their own names. Very cool.

I own two pieces of jewelry with old fashioned "barrel" or some people call it a "carousel" cut.
One was my mother''s birthstone ring (that she handed down to me) that is 66 yrs. old and was made in Italy, and the other is an ametrine pendant that I had made about 12 yrs. ago. It''s a neat cut if it''s done with precision. I''ve seen carousel cuts that didn''t have perfectly matched bar facets and it can look really..... well, not good.

I personally don''t think the carousel cut does anything for a diamond, but it makes semi-precious stones more interesting. When I wear either of mine, everyone asks me what it is.

Gemstones yes, but it''s a waste of a perfectly good diamond IMO

i actually stumbled upon the ring on ebay. i hate the way the stones are arranged in the ring but i did think the cut was interesting and unusual. maybe it looks terrible in person, i can't say, never seen it before!

ETA: i just googled "horse head diamond" and WOW that is UGLY!!!
