Hi there,

I am designing a ring based on the Cartier Ballerine setting. Cartier makes the ring using emerald or round diamonds. However, my girlfriend really likes cushion cut diamonds but also likes this setting. Anyone have any thoughts on how the cushion will look in this setting? I have seen some forum postings, where people stated they made a ballerine-like ring with a cushion cut, but I haven''t seen any pictures of how it turned out.

Here is the link to the ring: http://www.bridal.cartier.com/index.php?nav=engagement&onClicked=2&collection=2&t=1&cc=us&codeLang=en

I realize Cartier has a variation of this ring, called the florentine, with a cushion diamond, but they also add a halo to that one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. I wonder why Cartier would add the halo on the cushion. It makes me think there must be a design reason.

Also, anyone have any recommendations as to the type of cushion that would look best. I have recently realized that there are different plots /styles/angles for the cushions.

Thanks again.

A cushion would look great in that setting.

What type of look are you after? A vintage look or more modern? Do you like bold broad flashes of color and light, or do you like more needle-like, splintery flashes?

Thanks. She likes the vintage look. I think she would prefer the needley flashes. Is there a resource for the different look of the cuts?

This video is a great place to start: LINK

Actually, its broad flashes she likes. Sorry.

A cushion would look lovely in that setting. Modify it by 20% to make it legal...

If she likes broad flashes and a vintage look, then the only type of cushion I would recommend would be the August Vintage cushion from GOG. Jon there developed this cut recently and it is killer. Lot's of videos and information here http://www.goodoldgold.com/

If you want a true vintage cushion then I recommend www.jewelsbyericagrace.com They have a wonderful collection of vintage diamonds and the prices are good. Colors tend to be lower on vintage stones, which is something to be aware of.

Both of these vendors have *excellent* reputations on Pricescope and I would recommend them without reservation.
