Hi all!

I’m looking for advice on a ring I hope to buy in the near future.

I saw this ring on Pinterest and fell in love. Unfortunately, I believe it’s a Heidi Gibson design and is above my budget.

I’d love to set a warmer colored AVC in a setting such as this.

Is there any other vendors with similar settings? Would it be expensive to have something custom made similar to this? My budget for the setting would likely be ~2,000, so not sure if this would be realistic.

Thanks!

That does look like Heidi Gibson to me as well.

A ballerina design is one that she basically revived, so I don't think you'd have an issue getting one made that looks similar. It's not like you would be copying something unique she came up with on her own exclusively.

Maybe David Klass could give a quote. Another option is CJD_ Sako on Instagram. They have a not great website, but do have one:

The IG page is a way better view of their work:

They do all kinds of rehab work and I believe that a handful of custom vendors use him for the bench work from what I can tell on posts. I'd ask for quote from him too. He can do custom work directly.

I used Jon's bench for my ring setting when I bought my stone from him. It turned out really great. I know some others recently had experiences that they did not love, but for what it is worth, I had no issues and the setting is great. You could ask them if they could do something like that possibly as well.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll contact them and see what they can do.

What is your budget for the stone? For some reason I don't love this one but I'm not 100% clear why.

I was trying to keep it under $1000. I know not very much, but my focus was more on the setting as I love that setting!

Does it need to be a diamond or are ypi open to moissy or any other alternatives? I only ask bc 1,000 is really hard to find a good diamond, and I always hesitate to recommend spending more on the setting than the diamond bc if you dver wanted to upgrade then you'd have to scrap the setting.

I’m open to it, but I’d honestly prefer a diamond. This isn’t my engagement ring, just a rhr, so it’s unlikely that I would upgrade this particular ring. And the setting ended up being much cheaper than expected!

If you go with a lab grown diamond, which would need a new post on that board, your money may stretch further.

I'm not wild about the facet pattern on it. I can't get the video to stop, but look at the right lower half of the stone. It is dead looking to me in that area in particular. I can't see measurements beyond width and length because of their changes, but it may be cut in a way to get over the .50 mark by keeping depth.

Ahh I did notice that facet, but wasn’t sure if it was just the video. Many thanks for your help!

One more I just wanted to share, I hope I’m not bugging you! I’m really not sure what makes a good cushion cut.

Do you like modern cushions? I can try to take a look for you. I am not a modern cushion gal, but I can try to weed some out. What is the lowest color you are okay with? I can look later tonight. I am sure @lovedogs will weigh in too.

I originally thought I wanted an AVC, but I’m not sure why I’m drawn to the more modern cushions! I think the lowest would be K/L. Thanks so much! I really appreciate your help.

I feel like the ones you are linking have darkness in them , or aren't great facet patterns. I really like the ones from DBL that were linked above! But I'm not a cushion expert at all, just giving my thoughts :)

Honestly for a low color modern cushion David at DBL is your man. He finds some real oddities and eye clean low clarities that can stretch a budget.

With the caveat that I'm not a modern stone gal and I go for old cuts and I like step cuts- I don't consider myself a modern cushion expert by any means, but I don't mind these personally. I still think I like the DBL K better though. These are all more of a chunky cushion flavor versus crushed ice.

And this one is a long leggy one, but I kind of like it:

Here is an AV, but $433 above budget. What you save on the setting if you do the Etsy setting may make this stone work.
