Hi everyone!! OK so I got engaged in September and we had the ring isured. The people we baught it from are family friends nad gave us a discount. The ring and Diamond were cut and created by Michael Beaudry, See link: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-engagement-ring-engaged-9-12-08.96818/page-2

The gemologist gave us the apprisal with just the 4 c''s listed and appraised value. Hmmmmm Ithought and then let it go.

I now have my grandmother''s 3? carat RB diamond and my FI took it for an appraisal today. All the appraiser did was look at it for 10 minutes and then gave it back. This diamond is in a setting that the prong covers a gash on one of the sides.

Know I am thinking....don''t you have to take the diamond out of the setting to get a true appraisal? This now makes me question my engagement ring.....I want the map of the diamond and ALL of the paperwork!!

What should I do?
I am taking my grandmothers to an independant appraiser in CT to get looked at.

for my engagement ring....do I ask the jeweler for the diamond map?? How do I know it is actually a Beaudry diamond?

Help!!

ILove Beaudry :)

I''m not sure what you mean by a "beaudry" diamond...but at the same time, yes a full appraisal should include more than you''ve been getting. You probably want to take your appraisal business elsewhere. Use the RESOURCES tab above to find an independent appraiser in your area and then call ahead and ask what is included with the appraisal. It varies wildly and you want to make sure you are getting your money''s worth.

I just called one of the independent appraisers in my state. There are only two. I set up an appointment with her for next week! yay!

The Beaudry diamond just means it''s cut by Michael Beaudry and has his name laser engraved on the diamond.

Ahh, well then they should have the equipment to find the laser engraving. To do a real appraisal on the stone you''d want to take it out of the setting. But to appraise the ring they don''t take it out. Unless you are selling the stone I wouldn''t have it taken out.

I don''t know about taking the stone out of a setting ... especially if its an antique. Appraisers aren''t *setters* ... how''s that stone getting back in? It could be damaged on the way out or on the way back in ... who is responsible for that risk? The appraiser?? For $100 worth of services is responsible for damage to a 10-100K stone? Or to an antique setting??

If you want a "loose stone" appraisal you''d probably have to take it to a jeweler to have it removed & then back to a jeweler to have it put back in.

As to how to determine if its a Beaudry stone .. unless there''s an engraved name/number on the stone ...or its a proprietary (exclusive to Beaudry) CUT I can''t imagine anyone could tell that. If you bought it from Beaudry & they said it was Beaudry .. I imagine that''s as good as it gets. :)

I wouldn''t have either stone removed for the appraisal. way to much risk for damage when you can get the info you need off a completed ring appraisal to insure it.
