After returning my last diamond to B2C (due to poor cut), I am back on the hunt and would love some feedback on these diamonds. All have HCA scores under 2.0. The James Allen diamonds supposedly are eye clean and I'm currently waiting for ASET/idealscope. I am waiting to hear if B2C has images of their diamonds (i'm going to guess they wont have any).

As a reminder, I'm searching for a +/- 1.33 RB H Vs2-Si2 (must be naked eye clean). Must be a very excellent cut. My budget for diamond is $9450 max.

Re: Back searching for engagement diamond...thoughts on thes

Allow me to present a few solid alternate options:

1.323ct, H, VS2 (this would probably be my pick and it should be under your budget, after Pricescope discount - email/call them for images and to put this on hold)
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.323-h-vs2-round-diamond-ags-bl-104072305013

1.31ct, I, SI2 - August Vintage Cushion (if you're interested in this flavor of cut)
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/12312/

1.487ct, I, SI1 (check how eye-clean this one is)
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.487-i-si1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104072305005

Any of those would have a guarantee top-notch cut, with all the light performance analysis you're looking for. Best of luck!

Re: Back searching for engagement diamond...thoughts on thes

Reposting this one from the other thread. I think it is better than the three from James Allen, and I wouldn't deal with the other two vendors. There'll be a first time buyer and a PS discount that should bring the price down closer to your target.

(I see MGR posted this one above, too!)

Local stone...32 crown angle way too low...34-35 is what I aim for and most ideal cuts will fall in this range.

I would suggest this one as well. It might be a tad over budget but a very decent contender.

If you can stretch for this one, it's my preference as well.

Thank you to all who have graciously offered input so far. DS2006 this does seem like a great diamond and I actually spoke with Whiteflash yesterday about it. Unfortunately they no longer offer the pricescope discount but assured me that "they have done their best to lower their prices to account for the discount being take away." Effective mid June. :( also she said the first time buy would take of $25.

Given that many have recommended it, I won't rule it out. Maybe I can dig deeper in the pockets and/or live off Ramen for a week or so.

Re: Back searching for engagement diamond...thoughts on thes

Ahhh, well that is news to me and I appreciate you finding that out! In a way, it was probably wise for them to do that. But I am sorry I told you that there was a PS discount!

Honestly, we aren't talking about a lot more money in the overall scheme of things. If you can pull it off, I think you'd be happy in the long run with an ideal cut diamond, assuming they confirm it is totally eyeclean (the site says it is). But certainly we all have a limit, and if you don't think you should do it, I understand that, too!

DS, you might have missed it, this thread clarifies concerning the PS discount no longer being available. :wavey:

The WF stone is only $100 more than one that you posted. Yes, Ramen for a week, brown bag lunches and have a garage sale. It'll be worth it!!

Absolutely agree. Few hundred dollar difference is really nothing substantial in the long run. I mean, it is a "permanent car" right? I've contact WF and should know by tomorrow if it's eye-clean.

Re: Back searching for engagement diamond...thoughts on thes

Here is one more diamond I just found. Seems to be an ideal cut diamond. James Allen says it is indeed eye clean and ERD lists it as hearts+arrows (and for $1000 less than the WF diamond listed above). HCA is a 1.1. Love to hear your expert opinions. Worth a consideration or still much prefer the WF?

Thanks!

Re: Back searching for engagement diamond...thoughts on thes

I like the crown and pavilion angles a little better on the Whiteflash one. They're both good stones. A thousand bucks isn't something to sneeze at, and within reason this is a diminishing returns game.

Regarding the "HCA is a 1.1" bit. Remember that the HCA is a rejection tool, and not for selection. Any stone under 2.0 (or maybe low 2's) is probably worth a further look. But the HCA doesn't rank stones. A 1.1 isn't any better than a 1.9. So while you used it to narrow down your list, its usefulness pretty much ends there. Your eyes and images (Ideal-Scope and ASET) do the work now. :wavey:

Re: Back searching for engagement diamond...thoughts on thes

MGR and DiamondSeeker thanks both for recommendations on the WF diamond. Just heard back from their gemologist who confirmed that according to GIA standards it is considered "eye clean" but with good eye sight inside 6 inches, inclusions can be found from the top. While I know it's unreasonable to expect a Si1 to look like an FL diamond, I am hoping to find an Si1 where inclusions can't be found easily from the top down...

Thank you SirGuy for your feedback too. I definitely am using the HCA as the rejection tool and have eliminated many diamonds that way.

Waiting now for idealscopes from James Allen.

Re: Back searching for engagement diamond...thoughts on thes

I've decided I'd like a slightly larger diamond and am willing to sacrifice a little (i promise PS die-hards...only a little) on the cut. Decided my gf who is not even close to picky, won't know difference between a 1% cut stone vs a top 5% cut stone...trust me.

Anyone have a strong opinion on this diamond? Waiting to find out of the inclusions...(fingers crossed for white and not visible to naked eye!) FYI it passed the HCA.
