Hello all,

I am a new member. I 've read a lot about diamonds in the past month, since I am looking to buy one.
Lately I came across the niceice website and encountered the term "azamet shift".
Although the author tries to describe it via several examples, a search on "azamet shift" on google does not yield much.

I am trying to understand it better, so I would appreciate any additional info you could provide on what it is and how to assess it when looking at ASET, H&A images etc.

Thank you,

Possibly you are searching for "Azimuth Shift". This term has quite a bit on Google.

I actually just linked this article in another thread and thought that it may be helpful to you as well. If you scroll down about 1/4 of the page you will find information pertaining to slope angles and azimuth angles that may be helpful. The entire article is an interesting read though. =)

That is admirable that you want to learn more, but I can assure you that information is not necessary as far as buying a fine diamond goes. You can learn to recognize good idealscope and ASET images.

Need link, please, Christina. :))

It crossed my mind it could be "azimuth" but the author of niceice.com seems very knowledgeable and he is repeatedly referring to it as "azamet shift" throughout his website.

I have found 7 or 8 great diamonds and I think I am splitting hairs right now...
Trying to discern minute differences in the Hearts and ASET images.

Talking about ASET images, (if I may extend the question), is it important that in the ASET image the base of the arrow shaft touches the inner circle with its center point? That is, should the base of the arrow shaft in the ASET image be a nicely symmetrical V-Shape where the center point, the vertex of the V, touches the perimeter of the inner circle? (I hope I expressed this clearly).

PS: Thanks for the link to the article!

Great link I read it all.
I think one thing it does not mention is that the color of the small inner circle could be either red or green, it does not necessarily have to be red.

One major thing is getting used to the images of the particular vendor you plan to work with. When someone asks how to spot good images, I tell them to look at a line of H&A diamonds such as WhiteFlash ACA's in order to familiarlize themselves with how their images typically look. Their stones in their signature line are very consistent. But other vendor's have different photography set-ups and the images can appear slightly different. You have to click on the idealscope and ASET images to enlarge them. But these are examples of what you are looking for.

You are right. I did that.
I just am not sure how to interpret correctly the arrows symmetry in the ASET image. It relates to the question I asked a couple of messages above.

Thanks,
