When you say "better", what exactly do you mean? They're both gorgeous cuts, but in very different ways, so it really comes down to personal preference. Also, both come with a premium, but in some instances I believe the AVRs may cost more. Have you found that the prices are comparable?

I think both cuts are beautiful but I am not sure the beauty of the AVRs would be noticeable at a half carat.

In the 0.5ct size, H&A's frequent sparkle is more noticeable as compared to the broad flashes of AVR.

Hospatogi, I think you & Ashleigh make a really good point. I personally prefer the modern cut of H&As for myself, but I've seen a ton of AVRs & AVCs that blow me away!

If you're getting these studs from Jonathan at GOG, he has a bunch of videos on YouTube comparing the cuts, colors, carat wts of a variety of stones (side by side). So you may want to search the video list & see if there's something that'll help you with your decision.

Also, is there any difference in diameter between a 1/2 ct AVR vs a 1/2 H&A?

The AVR will be smaller than the same ct weight RB due to the greater depth. For earrings, I'd stick with modern RBs because the small but more frequent flash is more noticeable under all that hair.

Even if you prefer chunkier cuts, I don't think that the increase in cost would be worth it for AVRs at this size. I would go with the H&As.

I agree with everyone else. The sparkle of H&A is what I'm looking for in studs. I would save the AVR for a ring where its beauty would really be noticed and appreciated.

Another vote for sticking with RB's for studs. I believe at that size, the faceting may not be as noticeable and why spend that much extra money when YOU can't see them!! ;))

Thanks everyone for the responses. I think you are all absolutely right so H & A it is. The difference in diameter was 5.12 for the AVR vs 5.45 for the H &A. I do love those AVRs though and I would love to have one some day :).

That is really not true of all the AVR's as many have similar depths to MRB's. Plenty have 61 and 62% range depths.

I adore AVR's but you have to weigh out whether the price premium is worth it over the increased size of H&A stones. I deliberated on this and ordered a pair of AVR's but they were not in my desired color range. So I ended up sticking with H&A. Higher color will make the AVR's brighter on the ear, just FYI.

Thanks Diamondseeker I was considering G color AVRs but they are definitely more than what I was hoping to spend right now. Have you used whiteflash's trade up policy ?
