I think you should ask this question by age when married.

If you can help me figure out how to word the responses so that it is logical and easy to understand I would be more than happy to.

Maybe by mm spread too/instead? I don't know, maybe that doesn't matter!

Mine will be 2ct, but 7mm spread because it's an asscher (they face up small).

ETA: since we're adding deets--.14ctw side RBs (pave-style, but only 8 stones). BF and I are both 22, live in the LA area and have been dating for 3 yrs.

You could also ask it by location but all the extras make it complicated. May as well leave it as it is.
My center stone is .65

I just wante to clarify - I put over 2 but I also waited 15 years for an engagement ring so if you want to know what size stone I agreed to marry with it would be zero carats lol!

eta: I was 20 when we got engaged and a month later we got married when I was 21. I'm 36 now and finally getting the e-ring and it is 2.71 J VS2 cushion aprox 7.5x9.5 and having it set ::cough:: eventually in an 8 prong custom setting with around .5 ctw of melee.

If we'd gotten something way back when it would have been no more than a $500 ring, preferrably about $250 so I opted to wait, little did I know I'd wait soooooo long lol!

I'll leave it as is... you can specify age/size/color/clarity/measurements/ side stone weight if you want in post form

I'm 22 in the Baltimore area and I purchased a 1.15 ct RB center stone w/ 8 .32 tcw sidestones .

I''m now 29, but was 25 when engaged (DH was 34), 1.06 princess cut, Northern VA area.

My original stone (8 years ago) was a 1.33 ct pear (so I voted 1.25-1.5 in the poll). Then I went to a 3.02 oval. And now I have a 3.37 round.

Hmmm... wonder what's next!

ETA, I was 27 and HH was 32 when we got engaged (actually ON his 32nd birthday) and we live in downtown Chicago.

I don''t think the poll quite works as set up ... my stone is 1.5cts and I could have voted in two different categories 1.25-1.5 or 1.5-1.75 .. so many stones fall directly on carat & half carat markers (.50, .75, 1.0 etc) ... the numbers all gonna be all out of whack.

Just remember, the PS population doesn't represent the actual US average. Different sources have different numbers, but if you search, many say the average is around 1/3 of a carat. Here at PS, the average is probably around 1.2ct, which is a huge jump.

About a 2.25 cushion cut. I am 32 (just engaged this year) and live in Texas.

Mine''s .93. I''m 23, FI is 24 and we live in OH. I''m the 3rd of my friends to get engaged and mine is the biggest. One got engaged in college so hers is much smaller and the other got engaged just a few days before me, but she and her FI are still in school. Hers is .75. I agree that where you are in life and in the country definitely has an effect on the stone you get.

Oh decod... The chances of everyones diamonds being EXACTLY on the cutoff mark to completely skew the results are not that high. Even so- everyone always rounds up
3.gif
You should know that (especially when they're talking about the size of their diamond)!

PS- I did include 1ct in a separate category from .99ct and i think thats the important area to be sure of an exact cutoff as over 50% of the stones have fallen in those ranges... If it bothers you that much YOU can make another poll. lol

heheheh - is your glass half full or half empty? ;)

Original ring was 0.73 ct (29 yo), upgrade is 1.5 ct (31 yo).

I got engaged at 24, and got a 1.53 carat.

Upgraded to a five carat total weight three stone ring (center stone three carat, one carat on each side) at 35.

At 40 upgraded to a 9.22 carat emerald cut with baguettes on the sides...

I got engaged when I was 26, I''m 27 now and happily married. My center stone weight is 2.06.

Heh! I do know that **I** "rounded up" to answer!

Don''t mind me - I''ve got a cold!

Which I guess, Ceh, means my glass of OJ is quite empty.

I was just shy of my 25th b-day when we were engaged and I have a 1.72 EC (live in Charlotte, NC).

I read that as 8.32 tcw sidestones

... I couldn''t picture how that looked so I had to go find your ring. I get it now

.

I got engaged at 21 with a 1.06 asscher solitaire and we live in Northern VA (although we were in college in southwestern VA at the time).

I have a .71 Asscher, and we were engaged and married at 30. We did it fast, and I don''t think he had the time to save the money he expected to save before we got engaged, but because of the setting and my smallish fingers, it gets mistaken for just over 1 ct. all of the time.

I don''t think there will be any upgrades, just additions to my collection. My husband already has mentioned a 2 ct. for our 10th - or maybe before.

.81ct engaged at 25.

10 year anniversary gift 1.63ct

engaged at 23 with 0.82 ct round canadian diamond...

still engaged now (27) with an upgrade 2 days ago to 1.2 ct round canadian diamond..
31.gif
.

Engaged at 26. Bought a 1.37 ct D color VVS2 RB.

Engaged at 26 with a 1.51ct center stone... but I must admit, I wondered the same thing as Deco... which way to go if I DID fall right on the 1.5 mark!!
2.gif

My original stone when I was 26 years old was 1.09 ct. then I got a 1.74 ct for my 40th birthday.

engaged at age 30 with a 0.25 carat round solitaire. wearing it now.

got the 1.25 carat pear in the avatar at age 40.

Total weight will be .73ct..
Center stone is .52 princess cut..
I''m 25, work and study full time, hoping to one day finish my MD, so it''s rather hard to gather up money, what with having to spend thousands of dollars per year in books and tuition fees.. =/

The side stones are argyle pink diamonds, so a lot of the money went on them..

She''s happy with it.. Isn''t that what counts above having a bigger stone?

My parents offered to help -- But I had to decline.. The ring has to be from me, not from my parents..
