Hello!

I know many PSers like the look of the AVC in an antique setting (which I agree, looks very nice), but I am looking for a unique blend of antique and modern for my e-ring. However, I am hesitant to pull the trigger!

I have seen a picture of an AVC set in a Vatche x-prong and I thought it looked very nice. I am personally considering a ~ 1 carat AVC set in the Sholdt Fremont in 14K white gold. I like the sleek look of a solitaire and a LOVE the open profile of the Fremont, which I feel makes it a very unique solitaire setting. I feel like Kenny, I want to see all angles of my stone!

Since I have never made a large diamond purchase like this before, AND I have never seen an AVC in real life (I have admired many on Pricescope tho!), I would love to hear some opinions from anyone who has owned an AVC. Do you feel it would work in this setting? Or vice versa, anyone who has owned the Sholdt Fremont setting, what do you think it would look like with an AVC?

Really, anyone kind enough to do so is more than welcome to chime in with their thoughts!

Thanks in advance ladies!

Anything works. I think it would look very nice. Many people will say that with an antique style cushion they would prefer a more traditional looking setting or even a vintage looking one, but I like contrasts and I think the simplicity of the Fremont would set off the AVC nicely. I would stick to I or better on the center stone though, unless you don't mind seeing all that color from the side. The Fremont is very open on the side.

it will be stunning

I think it would be gorgeous. However, I like the combo of antique/modern, which why I have a more modern setting for my three stone---and my stones are avc's.

Not sure if you've already come across this, but here's an AVC in a modern solitaire setting by Krikawa - while different from the Sholdt Fremont, I think it conveys how beautifully complementary the right modern setting can be for an AVC - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/avc-krikawa-mokume.163859/

With the Sholdt Fremont, I think an AVC could work really well, but for some reason I picture more of a square AVC in the Fremont as opposed to some of the more rectangular shapes... what do you think?

I think it will look fabulous! I have the Sholdt Vashon bezel with an EC diamond and love my setting. If you go with a square stone rather than rectangular it will look better, I think. My stone has a 1.09 ratio and I set it e-w.
If I ever purchase an oec/avr/avc I would set it in either Sholdt or Gelin Abaci. I love the mix of modern setting and old cut diamond!
Have you visited this thread? Nice eye candy for Sholdt fans:

Thank you all so much for your comments! I am feeling more confident already!

Gypsy: So glad you chimed in! I definitely trust your judgement! I am not very color-sensitive. I think I would be willing to go as low as an M. Do you think that's too low for this type of setting? I am however very sensitive to the stone being completely eye-clean from all angles.

JulieN: I think so too when I envision it in my mind.

Packrat: Your beautiful bezels (I especially LOVE your 3-stone) are a great example of what I am shooting for. A perfect marriage of antique stone and clean, modern setting. I'm not a big fan of pave, for me personally (I love look at others who have gorgeous intricate pave settings, it's just not me tho).

Marymm: I LOVE that ring you linked to!! I love the semi-bezel and the open profile. I would definitely consider this setting. I love that "prongless" look. However, do you think the Fremont will be slightly more classic and delicate looking? I have small hands. I definitely agree that a more square shaped AVC would be better.

Woofmama: I love your stunning Sholdt e-ring! I have spent many hours viewing that thread! I just love Sholdt.

efc8503: Thanks for posting that example!! I really like it, but I wouldnt think you'd be able to wear a wedding band with a bypass ring like that one. I would definitely want a wedding band.

Does anyone know if a eternity band would sit relatively flush with the Fremont? I am considering a channel set band with blue sapphire baguettes for the wedding band. How do you guys think that would look?

So, an update to this very old thread-

I just purchased an AVC and it is being set in the Sholdt Fremont right now!! I am soooo excited. I will post pictures once I receive it!

I'm considering that very same option! Please post pics the second you get it!!

Yes, I'm very excited. I think it will really showcase the AVC! It should arrive in about 10 days and I will post pictures!

The stone is a .83 L VS2. I was originally wanting closer to 1 carat and a higher color, but this stone was offered at an excellent price so I went for it. The stone measures 5.71 x 5.51, so it measures up nicely even against some AVC's of higher carat weights. Plus I wanted a more square AVC. This one isn't perfectly 1:1 square, but close enough.

The Sholdt Fremont is the R-281-1 style (a little more delicate). It will be in 14kt white gold, size 5.25

I plan on wearing it with a plain wedding band, at least for now.

Very exciting!!! Looking forward to the pic's :))

Can't wait to see this!

Just got the ring yesterday!! It's more lovely than I ever imagined it could be!

The ring is stunning and I am totally in love with it. The Sholdt setting is a true work of art. The craftsmanship is outstanding.

The one compromise we made was on color. The stone is SLIGHTLY lower in color than what I would have preferred. In natural sunlight, it faces up very very white. It's really only in artificial light, or from the profile view, that the color is noticeable. However, it was priced extremely well and it has GOG's lifetime trade up policy, in case I ever decided to upgrade. At this point in time, I can't imagine parting with this ring. It's just so beautiful.

Stone:
0.83 carat AVC
L color
VS2 clarity
5.71 x 5.51 (1.04 ratio)
Table 47.2%
Depth 67.7%

Setting:
Sholdt R281-1 (Fremont) in 14kt white gold in size 5.25

She needs her own thread! Beautiful!

Wow! That setting looks perfect! Simple and clean and keeping the focus on your gorgeous stone! Lovely, wear in health and happiness.

I love your ring! Sholdt's settings are so beautifully crafted & your gorgeous AVC looks like the star of the show against the lovely tapered shank. :appl:

Sunshine! it is wonderful.. I think the setting enhances the gorgeous stone.. I would never have thought of it myself but I am now! thank you so much... it's beautiful.

So beautiful! I just love AVC's and the setting is so pretty, too!

That setting looks great with the stone, congrats!!!!

Thanks for all the kind words ladies!

I am really in love with it. It came together beautifully. I was initially concerned that the metal would swallow up the stone, since it's a petite stone, but that's not the case at all.

Also, I know that many people feel a narrow band makes a small stone look larger, and I think that is often true, but in this case I feel like the tapered band gives the ring some substance.
