I'm currently looking at some AVC around 1.2 to 1.5 carat. I am torn between a plain tapered solitaire setting or a small halo with tapered plain shank. I have a size 3 finger so I'm kinda worry that it would be too much. Another thing is if I decided to go with the K color vs. the I color, I really don't like to see the differences in color between the halo and the center stone. I love the modern simplicity of the solitaire, but I also love the antique feel of the halo :)

Solitaire! Let that gorgeous stone shine on its own.

Both are gorgeous!

What is your life style like? Are you hard on your hands and jewelry? Is there a front runner in your mind? What do your friends have?

Could you start w the classic elegance of a solitaire and let the AVC shine, for now, then change settings to a halo at a milestone?

Both are gorgeous but I would let that amazing stone bedazzle on her own and as Enerchi suggests perhaps change it for a halo setting sometime down the road as your mood allows. IMO a special stone like that deserves to be the star of the show and adding a halo while still being a beautiful ring can take away from the AVC.

I like the solitaire better in this case. I agree with you about the "K" color and the halo- I don't really like the contrast. If the halo was in either rose gold or yellow gold I think I'd like it much better, but the "K" in this case with the white diamond halo seems to make it look a little "dingy" colored if you know what I mean.

Go solitaire. You can always go halo eventually, but I think you'd feel worse spending money on a halo then changing to a solitaire than the other way round.

Also, if its slight vintage you're after, you can get a slightly vintage solitaire, or stack your e ring with vintage bands.

Also, I'm glad you went K! I did with my e ring and never regretted it!

I would choose for the solitaire and perhaps add some engraving on the shank for a more vintage feel. Or choose a vintage wedding band. Your stone is a beauty!!!

I, too, would chose a solitaire for either stone. The stone is so beautiful and I would want to let it shine on its own. As others said, you can always switch it out for a halo in the future. Enjoy, it's beautiful!

There are lots of gorgeous AVC with halo combinations on PS, but I think the AVC is one of those cuts that is spectacular on its own. I went through your dilemma when I was deciding how to set my AVC, and chose not to halo it. After living with that AVC and that setting for several years, I've found that it absolutely can hold it's own, and really doesn't need the additional ornamentation of a halo--and I'm saying that as someone who likes halos, and has several other rings that have halos. The AVC's broad flashes of light draw the eye, and no additional distraction is needed.

Solitaire! I think in this case the halo takes away a bit from the center stone, specially since the sparkle patterns are different. This difference is amplified by the tiny pointers in the halo which will inherently sparkle more brilliantly than the broad flashes of the AVC due to their small size.

I have an AVC, and I have to agree that the patterning of the cut is so unique! I considered a halo as well, but after I looked at some in stores, held my solitaire over the halo, and saw how the patterning got blurred and indistinct, I decided to just get a nicer solitaire - I got a JbEG modified Julia, and it has a "halo" of sorts around the basket, except it is on the side instead of on top. Best of both worlds! :naughty:
