I've never had a situation where I didn't feel I could not enjoy the jewelry I was wearing. In general I'm not the type to dress up so...lol maybe thats why people stage talk around me saying its probably fake. I don't let it bother me, I don't correct them period. If people want to think I wear costume jewelry, awesome. FWIW, I don't have super attention grabbing stuff. Its colorful sure, but not like super big or anything.

I wouldn’t feel safe nowadays wearing any piece that costs more than $5,000 or that looks like it does. DH was a violent crime victim recently and the chaotic state of the U.S. is also making us both pretty cautious.

I live in an area where it's highly unusual to see very expensive jewelry, even on the very rich. I don't *think* wearing an item could make me feel worried regardless of its expense - but I don't really know because I don't have anything ultra-expensive to wear. What's a $100k ring, 5 carats? If I wore that around here people would think it was fake. Or I stole it.

Thank you Arcadian. He was pretty shaken up and still is a bit, but otherwise unharmed (carjacked at gunpoint).

I’m very luck to live in a country where the crime rate is extremely low, burglary almost unheard of and people tend to wear and owN insanely expensive jewellery routinely (United Arab Emirates).

However I never take my jewellery with me when I travel. I have costume stuff that I wouldn’t mind losing to take on vacation.
