Are the jewelers themselves working on your rings, or are Vatche and Flyer working on them?

Is this jeweler the same one who botched the sizing of the old rings, or is this a third incompetent jeweler? It's tough to find a good jeweler whom you can trust. Believe me, I understand. I would not go to anymore local jewelers.

Vatche and Flyer are the only ones working on my rings, in fact MR VATCHE is working on my actual Vatche--he made it this last time.

But as far as the sizing, all were local jewelers with excellent reputations, and I had seen their other work before using them. I am done with local people for the most part. I like Jim Summa and Kodner but all of this has soured me so much on jewelry.

Good god. 10k??

I'm confused though... why was any of that coming out of your pocket? It's the jeweller's obligation to rectify errors - unless you waited a year or something, and it certainly doesn't sound like it...

Nope most of the time I didn't even leave the store before I rejected it. All of them required payment up front (ordering parts/settings,etc. and would not risk it), and only one place actually was willing to at least try. All but one of the jewelers refused to take credit for any of the problems telling me that it was "fine" and to "wear and enjoy it". It wasn't fine, they just wanted me gone because I was making a scene by that point. A ring should be round, not some weird offround shape, the head and stone should be set level, and the prongs should be at least at some point touching the stone. Chargebacks didn't always work, as the card companies wanted the business relationship more than a cardholder relationship. Not one of these jewelers stood behind their work. I am just glad my stone was not ruined by any of them.

I should seriously have just let GOG make all the sizing and whatnots. Because doing it local went bad. Thankfully all my time with Summa was great, and Kodner has helped me through all this Vatche and Flyer drama. I am sure they want a vacation from me now tho.

Edited to remove too much detail.

Welp, my ring "should" be back here from Vatche next week, well, it better be because I leave town and Im not leaving without it!

When they reviewed it, they claimed to not see it, and said that even their work for Harry Winston gets viewed at 10x. FIRST OF ALL--Harry Winston would NEVER allow this to go to one of their customers. I have seen their pieces in person and under a loupe, and all of them were loupe-perfect. I just want it to touch the stone without a loupe and not be visible without a loupe! So don't tell me that you do the same quality of work for them as you did for me! You didn't!

That said, it's pretty clear without any loupe, even DH saw it and he's generally blind, just hold it up to light even and you can see light all around the two prongs and a decent gap on the one. He claimed to have slid some post it notes under it and had no issues...uh I can jam 3 in there easily, not to mention countless other things. It's never touched the stone on top, we've asked it to be fixed 3 times, and it wasn't. So forgive me for being irritated after holding off for several months. The jeweler even warned me when it came from you the first time that it wasn't well pronged and he was right.

I have the Flyer back, and I haven't worn it since I got it back really at all. In part because I was too busy with my hands to deal with it and in part because I am so damn pissed about them doing what it looks to me like a good polishing job and not really fixing the problems. Hmph.

I quit. When my ring comes back from Vatche, assuming it's not butchered and my stone is ok, I guess Ill begin saving for yet ANOTHER setting. Yay for wasted money and time. Or Ill consider selling it all, getting a tattoo and a wider plain band and not ever wearing bling again.

Oy, what a nightmare!

I think only a PS vendor will be able to do the level of quality and workmanship that you want. Maybe you could give BGD or GOG a try? I think Jonathan carries Vatche, but I'm not positive.

I have patronized many PS vendors, the local guy is one, and haven't been entirely thrilled with most of them either, workmanship wise anyway. I like the people, not happy with the work. GOG has been the best experience I've probably ever had, though I liked my SP experiences for the most part. Hell they offerd me a job in Quality Control had I moved to NYC. Frankly, I don't plan to patronize BGD or WF again after my initial series of issues with them. And they are aware of that. As is most of the world.

I still kind of wish I'd have had Jon/GOG get me the Vatche. It was actually my initial plan and then the local guy was able to do it and I felt like not shipping it would be helpful. Little did I know how many frequent flier miles this thing would get. I don't know that Vatche would've done a better job for him, but I have no idea. Im kind of over Vatche after all this. I wish I could've afforded the Mark Morell, but now I feel like he's one of my only options and Ill just have to save for two years. I almost got a Sholdt freemont and couldn't get past the 4 prong thing. I wonder how that would've turned out.

At this point...I have no idea what I'll do, besides, of course, settle for inferior workmanship again and waste more money.
