Hi,

I''m pretty new to this whole diamond buying/appreciating world and it''s a bit overwhelming. I never knew there was so much to learn but I''m all for it. The more information, the better the decision.

I''m trying to decide between an Asscher or Radiant or Emerald of about 1.25-1.6 carats, based on what I''ve been able to determine that my budget will get me.

Is there anything I should be on the lookout for, either good or bad, with regard to any of these stones. Is there any reason, other than personal preference, to pick one over another?

Thank you!!

I can only give you my very humble personal opinion on the stone I know...mine! I have an asscher cut and through the hard process of finding the right stone through our friends on pricescope we were able to make a decison. I love step cut stones, asschers and emeralds. The radiant it beautiful too, just different. The most obvious thing we notcied was bang for the buck or more accuarately lack of :-) We wanted our asscher to look a certain size and what we thought that size(carat weight) should be and what the weight actually needed to be were two different things.

My husband set out to buy a 3-3.5ct. because that was what we thought we liked, issue we found was to have a well cut asscher it must be very bottom heavy to look appealing( I am of course simplifying the explanation)...this equates to you pay for a lot of weight that is not seen across the table. I love my diamond, but we wound up buying and spending a lot more than we ever dreamed we would have to. My diamond is approx. 8.9mm x 8.9mm and would be about the equivalent of a 3 carat round, but in fact weighes 4.25ct. That sounds sort of obnoxious when you have to say it, but when you see it it really is tasteful....

If you want the most look for your money in terms of size you may want to rule out an asscher. ....Just my two cents

OHF - I''ve taken the liberty of attaching a pic of your awesome asscher - I have it saved on my computer!

I am biased, I love emeralld cuts. I think they are so elegant. It really just depends which stone, for you budget, jumps out at you. The right one will speak to you and you will know it. Good luck! Let us know which you select. You really cannot go wrong but I would also heed ohf''s comments, because I do know that to be true about asschers...

This is clearly personal, but I do love Asschers, they are such classy and elegant stones. And yes, to get the "hall of mirrors" effect, the stone has to be fairly deep with a relatively small table. It will therefore look smaller when compared to a similar weight round brilliant. Also, don''t forget that asschers are less sparkly, but they are meant to draw you in, and not repel you. Good luck on your decision.

I really like square radiants - they have the square shape like the princess but they are sparkly when cut well. When my bf and I first started looking, I liked RB much more b/c they were so sparkly, but my bf liked the princess. So we compromised and found a square radiant. However, when I saw the asscher, my heart did skip a beat. We looked at a few asschers and found that we weren''t pleased with the ones that were within our budget. We found that they had too few steps (b/c the diamonds were not deep enough). Good luck on your search!
