Hey all,

To start, I'm new here...I stumbled across this site while endlessly searching for "that" stone for my soon to be fiance. I've learned more here in a day than several weeks of google searches haha. Thank you to all of the experts here for that. :)

I'm here because my girlfriend LOVES the asscher cut. I'm looking for one in the 1.5 ct range, but my wallet is tight, I only have about $11-11.5k to spend on the stone. I've looked in stores around town but most retailers don't have anything that really impresses me, the best I've seen was a 1.5 I VS1, and I really didn't like it all that much. In searching through the online stores that I've heard about, I've found one that looks great "to me", but I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger. Can you tell me what you think or offer alternatives and/or suggestions? Thanks so much in advance.

p.s. One thing that I notice under magnification with this stone is that you can clearly see the gia laser inscription. I've read that this isn't really noticeable when looking at it normally but it looks pretty clear to me. Thoughts?

Super leaky, that one.

The laser inscription will not at all be noticeable!!!! And that is absolutely not a reason to throw a stone out. You have to keep in mind that these videos of the stones are zoomed in a lot....Here are some other options:

Thank for both replies. I'm having a hard time distinguishing whether one stone is more leaky than another :/

The 2.02 that you linked 04diamond looks more leaky than mine, am I missing something?

I will eventually request an ASET but I would like to have narrowed down my list to 3 or so before I do.

I just went through this myself and found my diamond last week! The quest for the holy grail Asscher
First I bought a 0.90, which was beautiful, but too small for "old me" to really see the steps with the naked eye, then I found a 1.55 and that was just what I wanted.
My go-to person was a guy named Gary at James Allen. He picked out both stones and I've been thrilled with his choices.
Even after studying about Asschers I still could not have picked out a great performer online without help - they are tricky.
Best of Luck in your search!

Here are both diamonds:
[both are G/VVS2 and have excellent light performance. The 1.55 was under 11k w/pricescope discount]

the first ~0.90:

and the second ~1.55:

Ask if the 1.75 H SI1 is eye-clean.

Thank you for both diamonds, they both look great. :)

I'm like you, I know what to look for in specs, depth, table etc.. but when it comes to determining how leaky a diamond is versus how it looks in real life I have no clue.

Hopefully Jonathan can help. He did the following video for me, and it was educational in that it clearly shows a couple of diamonds with leakage and head obstruction/shadow, which he points out.

Huldak, that was a great video. I never realized that asschers could have so much sparkle. For educational :read: purposes, I wish that Jonathan had mentioned the measurements that made that diamond the best performer.

Well, I should have it in my hot little hands soon ... here is its page:

WOWWWWW!!! And thanks for the link :D !

I'm about to pull the trigger on a fantastic looking Asscher from GOG. I got the video, ASET, all the normal stuff that GOG gives you, but no GIA cert. I was told that the ring had to be reported as sold before they could show me the cert. Is this normal? I'm a little naive when it comes to ring buying, and GOG was highly recommended by you all....but this seems a little weird to me. Please settle my nerves :/

That's awesome congrats! Can you post pics?

That was the case with me too. At the time I assumed they wouldn't get the cert until they actually purchased the stone from the supplier (ie, after you pull the trigger and send them the funds). Based on your wording I wonder now if it's so a customer doesn't take the cert # and use it to find and buy the stone elsewhere. Neither scenario strikes me as sketchy, although of course I'm just guessing.

Will you have them ship you the stone to view before setting? How are you setting?

Thank you!

Yeah, I've been working with David and he has been FANTASTIC to work with. Everything had been rolling along smoothly until this cert thing happened, and I was a little confused to be honest.

I will set the asscher in a three stone setting with baguettes (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/need-help-replicating-this-setting.197613/), I just haven't settled on who I want to do the band yet.

Once everything is finalized I'll throw up pics. :)

Sure thing. Okay I just skimmed your other thread, I think you are looking at some great options! I would definitely get a quote from Victor Canera.
